kieranfoy
Now, I'm sure I'mnot the only one who noted an absolutely HUGE number of Lord of the Rings outfits, weapons and resources out there. We have entire, completed Barad-Dur's waiting for some bold modder to use, weapons and outfits just chucked in som efar dungeon without any plot behind them. In short, we have a NExus crying for an epic mod. My proposal in simple: we create a quest mod, both TES-lore and Tolkien canon intensive, which involves the Dark lord Sauron attempting to conquer all of Tamriel. The plot: Ages ago, in a land far beyong hte boundaries of Aetherius or Oblivion, a Dread Lord arose in a fabled land. In time, as always occurs in such stories, he was thrown down, thought dead and gone. And, indeed, Arda can sleep easy, as his soul, his animus was cast from their world, beyond reach of necromancer or seer, beyond even the sight of the Valar themselves. The spirit of the Dark Lord Sauron, feebled, half-dead, and barely concious, was cast into one of the lesser-known planes of Oblivon, a plane with no master. No master, that is, who was Daedra. From this place, the Dark Lord marshalled his strength. He gained allies, both in the planes of Oblivoon and on Tamriel. He built a great and vasty stronghold, Barad-Dur reborn, a spire of hate and malice arising from the blasted wasteland. In his plane, his armies of renegade Daedra, traitors to their various lords and master, train and await the day they shall slaughter all of the living world. His hordes of undead, torn from the chill grasp of death by necromancers, waith in silence. In the sunlit world of Tamriel, groups of Orcs who see paralels between their Orcish cousins on Arda (as described by Sauron's minions) form legions of warriors awaiting the Dark Lord's call. Mercenary armies of all races await the gold promised them. In short, a cataclysm awaits. Naturally, one would expect the Champion of Cyrodiil to wish to end this menace, to put a stop to the plans of a lord fouler thna Dagon. Heh. Yeah, right. In point of fact, you're tired of being the universe's go-to man. You faced down Dagon, and what did you recieve? A suit of tasteless armor and the loss of your best friend. No one cares or remembers your contributions; all they can speak of is how nifty the Avatar of Akatosh looked. Sauron, on the other hand, understands what it's like to play second-fiddle. He leands you a sympathetic ear, and offers you great power and priveledge as the most powerfull of his servants on the world of Nirn. The rewards: As a servant of Sauron, you can build your own stronghold, Minas Morivarla (the Tower of Ill-fated Stars). You gain the usual weapons, booty, and of course whatever you loot from the enemies of the Dark Lord. Eventually, you will be offered the opportuinity to become a Nazgul, wearing one of the new Rings of Power forged from themetals of Nirn. You may not be a King of men, but a Champion is good enough for the Dark Lord Sauron. We need: Tolkien experts; people who know more than "leik, teh movie was l33t and Legolaz was soooo hawt!!1!". People who speak Elvish and can quote the Silmarillion. People, in short, who can make this look good. Modellers and texturers. Diplomatic people whoo can cozy up to the makers of various mods (Witchking's Helm, Barad-Dur, Xilver's Balrog) and beg their permission to use their stuff. Story writers. Interior Designers. Lore-experts.
L33Nexus
Count me In! :D There is so much LOTR stuff on the Nexus and I'm pretty sure L Hammonds has or may be still in production of making Helmet of King Elendil. We have so much stuff already done! it's just a case of putting it together into something epic. I've seen each LOTR movie and played many games based on it :D Tree beards would be absolute awesome sauce :D Yeah, But definitely count me in on this one, I'll up this to the top of my list :D I really like LOTR ;)
zprospero
I'm with you too. I actually have an idea already, but let me think it through first. Where is the Barad-Ur you're referring to though, I can't find it. http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/zprospero/zpro.gif (I made a custom emoticon! I'm going to end all my posts with it now.) kieranfoy
@L33 Sweet! We could do Ents by usuing large... oh, god, whatever the SI tree things were. And, you're right, but personally I was thinking of all the EVIL resources and mods. @Zprospero: Can't wait to here your idea! http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25201http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27282http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22945 The last is officially a resource. There's also a few weapons we could ask the modders to use, like http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28714 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7690 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4839 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4543 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6346 I mean, good lord, the Nexus' full of 'em. Soome just ask for credit, a few ask to be asked, and TDA doesn't mention permission at all, but someone wh has a account on the Bethsoft forums could ask him. GNARL! That's it. The Ent's can be big gnarls. Anyway, personally, I loved the LotR villains. I like their use of technology and industry, I feel for the poor, predjudiced-against orcs, I just like their style. EDIT: Two things. Firtly, Tolkien had two major themes in his work: the absolute, indvisible black and white divide between Good and Evil, and the rise of industry. I'm planning on blurring the moral line. Sauron will do some good, like aiding the oppressed orcs and restoring their cultural heritage; and the Empire will do evil things. Real life is never so clear as Tolkien was. I''ve also always seen LotR as a bit of a metaphor for the rise of industry. The movies press the point home rather bluntly. We'll be coming down on the side of technology and industry. Also, a general layout of the plot: like SI, you'll have ranks in the Legion of Sauron, starting of as minion, and rising through the ranks, eventually becoming Witchking (or some other title; regardless, the right hand man). Then, in a not-too-unexpected act of betrayl, you kill Sauron and take his empire for your own. One thing to remember: everything LotR in Tat he had baamriel (with a few exceptions) is Sauron recreating what he had back in Arda. The only Nazgul are those he recruits here on Nirn, his legions are rogue Daedra and Nirnian orcs, Barad-Dur is a recreation, etc. However, there will be one quest where you travell to Arda, recruiting Uruk-hai, orcs and goblins (we can use wosshisnames method to make the goblins talk), and maybe a Balrog, getting ambushed by Ents on the way. zprospero
Sounds good. Yes, the movies in particular were rather blunt about the evils of industry. Well, it's more of an idea of who to include, and a possible quest. In the book when Grima Wormtongue kills Saruman itmentions the "essence" or a type of smoke being blown away. Since Sauron is immortal and can only be diminished in power, never destroyed, and because Saruman is of the same nature (as the wizards are Maia spirits too),it's no improbable for his return as well. Saruman was my favorite villain because he was the sneakier more devious threatwhile Sauron is pretty obviously a bad guy. And because Christopher Lee acted himin the movie and he's my favorite actor. (*Off-topicness*This is from an old movie he made, it's a spoof of superhero movies(He sings a song about alcohol): It gets pretty weird, but it's supposed to be funny) I also have always wanted to mesh Saruman's staff, and that could be part of quest. He mentions "The Rods of the Five Wizards" when he and Theodenhave there conversation after the Ents siege Isengard. The five wizards being:1. Saruman (White Wizard)2. Gandalf (Grey Wizard)3. Radagast (Brown Wizard)4. Alatar (Blue Wizards. I think they're twins.)5. Pallando Prof. Tolkien never said what happened to the Blue Wizards,it's speculated that Saruman tricked and murdered them. But we can do as we like, as it's unspecified. Perhaps collecting the Rods would be a goodquest to help restore power to Sauron. http://i816.photobucket.com/albums/zz84/zprospero/zpro.gif
kieranfoy
EDIT: Oh, BTW, I think I'll star making Minas Morivarlas (your stronghld) or at least a demo of it to attract interest. ou rise through the ranks, become a Nazgul, but you could have one higher option. Perhaps Sauron cannot create a corporeal form, but can inhabit one? We could give the player the option to BECOME the Dark Lord, eh? Good idea, indeed. I had thought of the player taking on Saruman's role (being given his recreated staff- there's already one, I believe, although you could certainly do better) and being given his symbol, which would show Sauron being kinda whistful, adding a human side to him. I also figured you could make a set of, say, black robes with the White Hand symbol on them. Maybe Sauron tasks you to recovers Saruman's essence, and you can either do it, or betray him and cast him back into Oblivion, and sorta say, Opps, my bad, and Sauron more or less makes you into a substitute? As for the Blue Wizards, I believe that the conssensus of Tolkien scholars is that they went off into the East, and were seduced by it's luxuries (carpets, harems, hookahs) and lost their way, but maybe you're right. Been a while since I checked. Definitely recovering the various wizard's staves would be a neat quest, and there are so many staff models, including both of Gandalf's. As for becoming Sauron, eh, being the Dark Lord's sockpuppet doesn't appeal much. I figure betraying him and taking his throne might be more fun. But, we'll see. It's an idea to consider, sure. Anyway, he's been resting in Oblivion for ages, he's had time to get back his armored form (which let's us use his armor.) I was thinking, there's a test script (testchappy) in the CS that makes a character, when he dies, vanish is an explosion of frost, and be replaced by Hromir's icestaff. A varient could be used on Sauron, with his armor instead of teh staff, and flame instead of frost. Also, I was thinking a series of Ambassadorial quests, where you negotiate with Orcish factions, a hidden Balrog, etc. and get their aid by hook or crook. zprospero
Sounds cool. I had just noticed your other edit when I posted. I like your way better. I'm not sure about the Blue Wizards either, regardless, they aren't about. I like the idea of getting the aid of various factions and such. That script sounds cool, I'll have to look at it. EDIT: Yeah, that would probably be a good idea.

Also, a question: I've seen a plain, long red carpet in a couple of mods, and I'm almost sure it's vanilla, but I can't seem to find it in the CS. Do you know which one that is?
