crowlotus
I recently installed Oblivion on my computer running Windows 7. When I try to play the game, the game keeps flashing in the background. In addition, the local and world map is completely gone. If I move the cursor around, the map comes back. Also, when I checked where my files were, some of them have what looks like a lock beside the file. I also noticed I can not bring up the ~ button and when I do, it says object not found, i.e., gold, god mode, etc. :wallbash: These are the ones that my computer will not run. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on what I can do to fix this problem.
MonsterHunterMaster
Did you install into the default installation directory? If you did so, check out Bben's article Vista related problems such as UAC.
bben46
Whatever it is it's not a Win7 problem. I, as well as many other people are running Oblivion on Win7 with no problems. On my system it has been more stable than the original Win XP on the same hardware. Right off, based on the number of problems I would suspect a install problem or possibly a graphics card problem. What hardware are you using? - especially the Graphics card. Which version of Oblivion is it? and is it the DVD, Steam or D2D? If it's pirate we don't support it as who knows what problems the up loader had that you now inherit. Also, have you installed any patches, mods utilities or DLCs? agamer
I have a question on this subject. I recently installed windows 7 64bit on my pc and want to reinstall Oblivion. I've been reading around about how oblivion runs with windows 7 and some suggestions were to not install it in the default directory because of UAC issues. Any thoughts about this? bben46
My recommendation is to NOT install in the default location. Make a new folder like C:\Games and install there. It will save you all of the hassle of dealing with UAC without having to disable the protection that UAC gives to the programs folder. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=
agamer
Thanks for the quick reply bben46. I read your uninstall/reinstall instructions and will use them for installation and possible future uninstallations. I have one other concern before installying Oblivion and that is Securom. Right now securom does not exist in my pc because my massively expensive pc has been 90% rebuilt and runs flawlessly so far. Prior to rebuilding my pc I had issues with securom and oblivion. Wheni tried to do an uninstall/reinstall of oblivion a securom window popped up and said to try installing from the original disc which I was doing. It was a store bought as legitimate as it gets copy of Oblivion. So I went to securoms website to try and troubleshoot the problem and couldn't get anywhere with them, so I googled a work around for the problem which I don't recall all steps I took for reinstalling but I was able to reinstall it and play. However, when I turned on my pc the next day my internet connection was completely gone. My ISP and Alienware techs could not find the source of the problem and so had to do a complete reinstall of my then current OS. I suspected the core issue in the matter was securom. I just know i've read countless stories of people having serious pc problems once their computers were infected with that security program. I want to play Oblivion but I don't want that program messing with my new pc. So, do you have any advice about this?
bben46
The only problems I have heard about regarding securom as use on Oblivion is with no cd programs such as Alcohol 120% - a legal program. As I remember, the securom demanded that alcohol be taken off of the computer before allowing Oblivion to be installed. You may try to see if there s a solution on the Alcohol website if you use it. agamer
Thanks bb, but i've never even heard of that program. So i'm sure it couldn't be that. And i'm positive everything on my pc was 100% legitimate since i've never downloaded anything illegal or pirated at least not to my knowledge. I intentionally avoid those things and usually opt for spending the money as opposed to gaining anything illegal. So, back to square one, it was definitely a securom window that popped up during reinstallation of Oblivion and i thought at the time i had completely removed Oblivion from my pc prior to the reinstall but apparently something didnt sit right with securom, then again my understanding is securom is really badly programmed in the first place, so who knows what triggers it off. Anyway, a good point in case as to the faultiness of securom is it was installed with the sims 2 but wasn't installed with the sims 3 because ea got bombarded with complaints about the havoc that program wrecked on their computers and there were lots of people meaning thousands signing online protests threatening to boycott the sims 3 if the game was shipped with securom. I'm worried that once i install oblivion i'll never get rid of securom unless i do a reinstall of windows. Or perhaps i won't have a problem with securom, it never bothered my computer with the sims2 but only with oblivion. :(
