Yeamon
I've been a huge fan of Oblivion since it's release. I really want to try out the PC version for the bug fixes and the awesome mods available. I did this http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/4157/94024621.jpg Please look at the "what you have" list. I looked a bit more online and saw that people were able to run the game on lower computer standards, but I'm not sure about the quality of gaming they have. My main concern is the game doesn't work with windows 7. The test also said my video card wasn't good, yet all the things underneath are good. Below the "video card" requirements are disk space, directX, sound card, and DVD Rom. All four passed. So I ask you guys, will my PC run Oblivion in average, or acceptable FPS, graphics settings etc.? I appreciate any help.
Jenrai
Windows 7 isn't the big bad beast everyone seems to think it is. Its reverse compatable but most things that worked on Xp - Its not Vista afterall. ;)Yes it'll run Oblivion.Yes, you'll have "acceptable" FPS and graphics.I'm gonna guess from that onboard MOBILE graphics chipset that we're talking laptop here.So... Once you start modding it it'll fall through the floor. That you'll be running it on a laptop is frankly gonna give you more issues than running it through 7. See, the problem with laptops and games (particularly games that fall into the extremely resource intensive bracket, such as Oblivion) is generally onboard graphics and sound. Not good for gaming in a desktop. Even worse in a lappy, because you have no choice. Everything thats mounted on your mainboard "fights", for lack of a better description, for mainboard resources and priority. Obviously, we don't live in an ideal, money-no-object world or I'd simply tell you to lose the lappy and get a decent desktop. Hell, you can put a damn good desktop together for the price of a relatively crap lappity these days. I've done it a few times. ('buy' lappys, boost em, flog em, make the owner a desktop with cash from the lappy + slight profit pour moi.)Right... now my "Laptops be the root of all ebil!" rant is over... free advice concerning Windows 7;Don't install the game to the default directory. Hell... don't install ANYTHING to the program files directory unless it absolutely positively must be in there to work. In their attempts to police how the world uses its computers microshaft stuck extra defence on the "C:\Program Files" directory that makes the UAC look childsplay. Stick it in C:\Games\Oblivion or better yet just C:\Oblivion. Especially important if you intend to use mods. And speaking of the UAC shut it down and make sure you're running as an administrator. Be aware that Oblivion.exe, OBMM, and OBSE's Launcher.exe all need admin rights as well or they're gonna fail. Just turning off the UAC doesn't do all this for you. You'll still need to assign admin rights to those programs to let them operate fully. General rule of thumb: Give any program that you want to be able to open or move other files and programs admin rights. Thats about all I can tell you about Win 7. Since Vista I lost a lotta faith in MS, rolled back to XP and haven't upgraded yet. I probably won't in all honesty until I absolutely have to. Bben has some real handy articles on the Nexus file site about Vista/7, the UAC and stuffs though. Jenrai

Qwaxalot
The weakest link is the video chipset. However, with the latest drivers from Intel's website, your laptop will Oblivion with mediumish settings at an acceptable frame rate. If you add many mods, especially "eye candy" mods, the performance will drop right off. Qwaxalot
