Headgear Texture all black if I use shortcut key?

If I use the PipBoy to equip head gear the textures appear correctly. IF I use a short cut key 1 to 8 then the textures appear all black. Is this a game glitch or have I done something wrong? This happens mostly with added mod headgear but some vanilla stuff is affected as well. Has anyone else had this problem, is there a way round this?

I've never encountered such a problem before. Did you toggle and apply archive invalidation after installing the head gear mods?

Yes

As I said the textures are fine unless I use the quick keys to equip them. I’m wondering if it’s something to do with the speed the item is equipped, obviously in the consol you get the pipboy closure before the equip so the game has more time, just a thought.

Also this only happens with headgear, not armour which can be assigned a quick key without any trouble.
