The Swords of the Gods

Now, I'm a huge fan of The Complete Book of Swords. B: It is an awesome book, and I'd absolutely adore to have some of the swords from the game. Bear in mind that all twelve are quite similar that you could mistake one for the other but for very faint markings on the hilt, which don't necessarily need to be seen. All Twelve are one-handed Longswords with black wrappings on the hilt. Another thing they all have in common is the aura about them. When used in the right situation, the bearers in the novel all feel as if there is a strange aura emanating from the blade and how they can hear a distinct, light whine.

Long story short; all twelve blades were forged by Vulcan, who came down to earth and summoned four human men to serve him in making the weapons. Three of them, he slew to use in forging his weapons, and the fourth he chopped the arm off of and sent him off with Townsaver, the sword of fury. Before this, he captured the essences of human love, pain, fear, anger and whatever other emotions he could coax out of them.

While Vulcan himself is not a part of the DA world, what he did does sound a lot like blood magic; sacrificing life for power. What we do have, however, are a few elven gods long forgotten and seeped in mystery. It could very well be that a 'nameless god' performed these rituals.

Each blade is powered in one aspect and weakened in the other. For example, Townsaver greatly strengthened Mark's brother when he picked it up to try and defend his father after he was knocked unconscious by the war-cats the bandits brought with him, but he was unable to evade enemy attacks and succumbed to his injuries soon after battle.

If these blades could be created in any way, I'd absolutely love it. ;3; Perhaps they could be scattered around Ferelden in random Merchant's shops or a part of a larger quest.

There is a poem that goes with the blades that explains what the blades do, though some, like Woundhealer, (Aka the sword of Mercy), might be a bit hard to create, as it does not injure an opponent but is rather a sword of healing.

Either way, here it is;

Who holds Coinspinner knows good odds

Whichever move he make.

But the Sword of Chance, to please the gods

Slips from him like a snake.

The Sword of Justice balances the pans

Of right and wrong, and foul and fair.

Eye for an eye, Doomgiver scans

The fate of all folk everywhere.

Dragonslicer, Dragonslicer, how d'you slay?

Reaching for the heart in behind the scales.

Dragonslicer, Dragonslicer, where d'you stay?

In the belly of the giant that my blade impales.

Farslayer howls across the world

For thy heart, for thy heart, who hast wronged me!

Vengeance is his who casts the blade

Yet he will in the end no triumph see.

Whose flesh the Sword of Mercy hurts has drawn no breath,

Whose soul it heals has wandered in the night,

Has paid the summing of all debts in death

Has turned to see returning light.

The Mindsword spun in the dawn's gray light

And men and demons knelt down before.

The Mindsword flashed in the midday bright

Gods joined the dance, and the march to war.

It spun in the twilight dim as well

And gods and men marched off to hell.

I shatter Swords and splinter spears;

None stands to Shieldbreaker.

My point's the fount of orphan's tears

My edge the widowmaker.

The Sword of Stealth is given to

One lowly and despised.

Sightblinder's gifts: his eyes are keen

His nature is disguised.

The Tyrant's Blade no blood hath spilled

But doth the spirit carve

Soulcutter hath no body killed

But many left to starve.

The Sword of Siege struck a hammer's blow

With a crash, and a smash, and a tumbled wall.

Stonecutter laid a castle low

With a groan, and a roar, and a tower's fall.

Long roads the Sword of Fury makes

Hard walls it builds around the soft

The fighter who Townsaver takes

Can bid farewell to home and croft

Who holds Wayfinder finds good roads

Its master's step is brisk.

The Sword of Wisdom lightens loads

But adds unto their risk.

You can read more about the blades on the wikipedia page, which is actually accurate;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve_Swords_of_Power

They have a lot of information on them and exactly what they do and which ones put the bearers in danger of being sorely trounced in return for power.

Anyways, I have the book handy, and can give any additional information anyone needs if they'd want to take this on, or even just help me with getting this started that I can do it on my own or as a joined effort. .3.
