Vagrant0
I believe the other reason for the large difference is that there weren't many people making new weapon or armor meshes for Morrowind so most of what you do have are just retextures or the same object with some sort of different look. In comparison OblivionArmor/Armour 1331 filesClothing 557 filesWeapons 1067 filesWeapons And Armour 477 files3432 files total MorrowindItems, Objects and Clothes 145 files Weapons And Armour 243 files388 files total And many of the morrowind ones are recent additions. Once you exclude things like: Saved Game files which weren't really worthwhile in a game without facegen.New Lands which weren't particularly possible given how everything had to exist in a single worldspace.Gameplay changes because leveling, spawns, clutter, ect were't as broken in Morrowind (with exception of cliffracers).House mods because you didn't have every person with the CS and a tutorial making them.Body/Beautifucation mods because Better Bodies (and maybe smooth bodies) was for both genders and was all that anyone needed.Texture mods because few people new how to make them for Morrowind and the textures used were about as good as the engine could handle at the time. Once those are excluded, the differences between the two games is really rather small. As for the reason why there aren't as many mods that are compatible with the newer versions of morrowind, the answer is obvious. Age. Most of the authors for Morrowind are no longer around. LegoManIAm94
Well I thought Morrowind will have more mods since it is older and the CS is way easier than it was for Oblivion. But there have been more gamers during when Oblivion was released I think.
Pushkatu
As for the reason why there aren't as many mods that are compatible with the newer versions of morrowind, the answer is obvious. Age. Most of the authors for Morrowind are no longer around. True, most mods older than 2008 are dead and forgotten. Also most Morrowind mods(the most important mod projects anyway) are for visuals. Morrowind graphics extender(MGE) and along with many of the active mods all focus on improvings MW graphics in a way or another. Well I thought Morrowind will have more mods since it is older and the CS is way easier than it was for Oblivion. But there have been more gamers during when Oblivion was released I think. Again, true. Oblivion did get more attention, mostly due to it's "adult industry". I mean who would like to see a dark elfs arse in Morrowind? :D Close to a milion people joined only on nexus in 2009 lol.
Balakirev
So I recently started Morrowind again and I was searching for mods and I'm surprized that there are so few mods for Morrowind compared to the mods available for Oblivion. I mean Morrowind is out since 2002 and has only 1900 mods on Nexus and a couple more on PES, but my point is there is a huge difference between the two games when it comes to mods. Despite its presence, TES Nexus has never been as important a site for Morrowind mods as some others, though I rate it first both in quantity and quality for Oblivion. PES has been one, but also dropped quite a few Morrowind mods over the years. Many Morrowind sites have closed, such as TheLys', while others you missed naming, including Elric's, which functions as a host site as well for several specific modder sites (like Emma's and TommyKhajit's). At one point about 5 years ago, I remember someone with far too much time on their hands did a rough count of the Morrowind mods available, and came up with the number of 6,000. That's of course counting overseas sites, as well. I've just glanced back at my own "storage" area for my last run-through of Morrowind (before my current one), a couple of years ago. I always archive my mod downloads, and there are several hundred in there of which a good half are no longer easily available. I feel very uneasy about uploading any of them anywhere without the original modders' permissions, and I'm sure others feel the same way. That, plus the lack of ongoing support, probably accounts for a good many absences of these old but frequently quite good mods from the big sites. Then, there are the modders who simply never cared for those sites. Brash's Fantasy Morrowind retexturing job was never uploaded anywhere save on his own site, which thankfully is still around, and I think Jeremy's Divine Domina series of armors is pretty much the same way (though I believe Elric's has a copy of some of these). Adul never bothered with any sites aside from his own until the last few months, yet he's been making superb Morrowind mods--huge, original shops and interresting ideas--for many years. And so it goes. A lot has been lost to the community because of site closures both large and small, but many fine modders just never bothered trumpeting their own horns. Their material is still out there, if you know where to look.
Pushkatu
Thanks for the reply Balakirev. Thanks to the names you mentioned I was able to find a couple more mods that I like. :thumbsup:Morrowind community looks so stretched. A couple of mods here, a big project there, then anoher couple of mods. It's hard to find them, unless you know the author names or the mod names. Vagrant0
It's hard to find them, unless you know the author names or the mod names. It's been that way for a very long time. You really don't appreciate the importance of a long-standing, well known community until it's no longer there.

You really don't appreciate the importance of a long-standing, well known community until it's no longer there. True words. Even if I doubt there where so many trolls back in Morrowind glory days some modders still prefered to keep their stuff more private and not upload them only on thier sites where they could have better controll over the files. I think things are worse with Oblivion mods. We have to many to pick from, but most show little or no apreciation so many modders just stop sharing. I wonder what will happen when TES V comes out. This place will be overcrowded. It's harder for people who start playing the game years later as they where not there when the mods where on the front page and thus, most have no idea where to start looking.
