Oblivion Script Extender

Recommended Posts

Hey I have quite a few mods running right now on my Oblivion, so it's possible this has nothing to do with OBSE, but I notice that since I started using OBSE every once in a while my game will just kinda... stop responding? I hesitate to use that words because the game continues to run and it will not freeze up or anything, in fact if I had auto-walk on my character will continue running and all the AI's still work. It just wont accept and commands, and I mean any. Not escape or quicksave, quickload, whatnot. It's not really a major issue since I save often, but I wanted to know if anyone else noticed this.

-Thanks, Ghotferret195

That does not sound like an OBSE problem. My first guess is some background process has done something and not given full control back to the game.

What version of Windows?

Full screen or Windowed?

Are you running any background processes that do not close normally? Skype, Vonage. xfire, any IM. other programs that perform automatic updates, Antivirus, antispyware, and anything else that may be running in the background.

One example: An older HP printer software used to check the internet every day for an update without telling you. If it could not make its connection (because the game took control back or if the internet was disabled) it kept trying every 10 minutes causing the game to freeze every 10 minutes. It was fixed in an HP update.

Another: Xfire (and many other IMs) check every so often for new incomming messages. Most of the time it returns control in time, but occasionally - CTD or game freeze.

Here is a link to a free program that will help disable any background processes - and allow them to be reactivated when you stop playing. This is from a clean site, No garbage, spyware or viruses.

I have seen something similar when using a wireless Keyboard. Either the keyboard batteries are weak or you are too far away from the receiver - or possibly there is some interference. I was in an office once where every once in a while, one person would get random characters show on his screen. Just one or two usually, but sometimes a complete word.

It turned out to be another person in the cubical next to him had a similar wireless KB and when they typed with the KB in their lap - sometimes the OTHER computer would pick up some of the transmission. But not enough to be obvious. Most wireless KB & mouse have a way to change their channel, either a button to push or a switch.

Watch for other devices nearby - such as a microwave or motor turning on at the same time you have the problem.
