HyroProto
I'm a mage in level 6..haven't specialized in anything yet I have runes in my inventory..have weapons..but cant upgrade my/companions weapons with runes 1. Is my level too low to get the runes to work in my weapons ? If so in which level does the game allow me to use Runes on my weapons ? 2. Do u need an Enchanter to make the runes work ? Or Do i have to just drag & drop them in my weapons after I meet requirements (Level/abilities, ect.) 3. As I'm a mage, do the Runes work on my staff or do they only work on weapons like Swords, Bows ect. ? 4. Can I put Runes on my Companions Weapons ? --------------------------- I really need these to work as I suck at tactics, My party usually get massacred by any large group regularly  thanx in advance
DarkeWolf
These are some very good questions, and I'll try to answer them for you as best I can. First, not just any weapon can be upgraded with runes. When you do a mouse-over of a weapon to see it's description.... you'll either see, or not see, 1-3 small boxes at the the bottom of the description. Each of those boxes is a rune socket. That tells you if it can be socketed, and if so, how many it can hold. If you dont see any boxes/sockets, it can't be upgraded with runes. Armor and shields cant be upgraded, only weapons. And yes, once you've got a staff that can be upgraded, you can get it upgraded. :) It requires an enchanter to do the upgrades. The player themselves can't do it. When you visit an enchanter, you select an option called Enchantment. This will open up a window that contains a list of all the weapons you own (whether you are the one holding them, or a companion is holding them, they all show up), that can be enchanted. It will also contain a list of all the runes that you're holding in your inventory. You choose the weapon, then you drag and drop the runes into boxes on that screen. when you're done, you just click "Accept", and it's done. Or, if you dont want to upgrade at that time, just leave the boxes empty, and click accept. Once you have gotten past a town called Lothering you will meet a merchant and his son being attacked when you leave Lothering. After saving them, you leave and make your first trip to your party camp...which is kind of like a home base. Low and behold, the merchant decided to follow you and it turns out that his boy can do enchantments! And they decide to go ahead and stay at the camp too! I will also go ahead and warn you, get ALL your business in lothering done before you leave. Once you leave there, you can't go back. There's two companions in that town that you'll want to recruit. Sten, and Leliana. If you leave before you get them, you cant go back for them later.there's also a mod that you may want to install, called quartermaster tolby. The vanilla game give you NOTHING in the way of a storage area. Tolby is a guy that comes to live in your camp. you can give him stuff to hold onto it for you. He has very deep pockets and can hold pretty much anything that you want to give him to hold onto.http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=207Now with him, you'll see that it pops up to "sell" to him. dont worry about that. you can get it back anytime you want. Its just the way the mod had to be made (making him a merchant) so that he has an unlimited amount of storage space. Hope this helps you out :) Oh yeah...almost forgot. I'd recommend using damodder to install your mods. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=286its very simple to use. you just extract it into it's own folder, then make a copy of it, paste a shortcut onto your desktop. doouble click the shortcut to open the program. once you have it open, you can either just drag and drop a .zip or .dazip mod into it and it will install it for you. even shows them as a list that you can use to uninstall them if you want to. HyroProto
thank you so much for taking the time to put a detailed reply.. It seems that I have to replay from a saved game as I finished Lothering (recruited Leliana) but completely ignored the 2 merchants in the camp & went straight away to Red Cliff.. So Guess I have to go back to the camp site & try & see if i can get the runes to work & also to see if any of my modest weapons can be runed.. (I use a Dark Spawn staff..so dont know if it can be runed) and thanx for the info about the mods & DAModder..I indeed use DAModder & am using the mod "Expanded Inventory" where u have all the 120 item slots already available to u... thanx for the tip on QM tolby mod..will be using it.. will follow your advise & see if i can get them to work thanx again for all the help
DarkeWolf
Not a problem, glad to help out :) Like I said you should be able to tell if a weapon can be modified with runes or not. Just put your mouse pointer over the weapon in question and leave it there. the weapon description will have 1, 2, 3, or 0 small boxes that run vertically at the bottom of the item description. If there are any boxes there, thats how many runes it can hold. If there arent any boxes, it can't be modified. There IS however, a rather complex mod called The Winter Forge http://social.bioware.com/project/672/http://dragonage.phaenan.net/ <-- author's homepage, has additonal information. that can let you upgrade weapons and armor. However, you have to aquire scrolls for the mod in order for you to be able to do so. And you have to drop skill points into it, in order to be able to read the scrolls. 3 of them the 1st one gets given to you once you talk to the npc.And it does take a little bit of time to figure this mod out, as well as you have to sit there and listen to a lot of blah blah blah from the npc it adds to the camp before you can even use it.But all said, its a really fun mod to play around with. Hahaha you just have to restrain yourself from making godmode items! It lets you add rune sockets to items that dont already have them. lets you change the material that your weapon/armor is made of, lets you add additional properties to it, such as added damage, armor bonuses, regen bonuses, recolor the base metal its made of, all kinds of good stuff, but it's limited to which scrolls you can aquire and translate. Tolby is awesome, you wont regret adding him in, I guarentee it ;) OOPS! I forgot an item that comes in the metagame items pack. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13Alternate Lothering portal! Lets you go back to lothering after its been closed off! Sorry about that!
