Bloody frustrated, and I need help.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Ok, I'll try and remember everything, but if you think I have missed anything, please let me know if it is a possibility of doing what I'm about to explain.

First, I installed Oblivion. No problems. But after a little while I took the jump to modding. I uninstalled; took off the mods, again, no problems. Then, to organize the mods, I installed the Oblivion Mod Manager. Got a ton of mods, and then, out of the blue, the voices on my game stopped working. Lips would move, and if I turned to a certain angle, I could faintly hear them talk. I tried fixing it by extracting the files (.bsa) on to the desktop. Then I dragged and dropped them into the correct folders overwriting them in the process. I loaded up the game, and it automatically shut down, saying Oblivion stopped working. I uninstalled Oblivion.

Now, every time I re-install Oblivion, it has those same exact files waiting for me. I want to go back to the original files, but I have absolutely no idea how to do this. I have deleted pretty much everything, and I hope I won't have to delete my mods as well (they are in WinRar, so I don't think they are harming anything).

OK. The first problem is installing a ton of mods at once and not checking to see if they work in game individually before adding more. This would have helped with the voices not working. Obviously it's caused by a mod so adding one at a time until you discover which is causing the problem is the better way to go.

You should not extract the BSA's unless you know what you're doing and especially if they are still present in the data folder as well as the extracted files. The game looks first to the BSA's, then to mod folders or in your case the extracted files and this causes a major problem. For mods that add custom files it's not an issue, but for the original files you're duplicating them if you left the BSA's in the data folder as well.

When you uninstall the game you must remove ALL files, including anything in the data folder and in your Documents folder like the game ini configuration file.. Move any saves out and back them up. You can also rename the complete Oblivion directory to something the installer won't recognize, eg Oblivion Old, but you must remove registry entries. This way you can keep your mod files intact and move the data folder back to the new install.

Search for bben's Install/uninstall procedure article for the best way to do this. When you remove all files relating to the game and reinstall you will have the originals back.

For the voices issue post a load order of your mods using OBMM (Oblivion Mod manager.) Go to Import/Export on the right of the main window. Then select View Load Order. Save the resulting file to a text editor like Notepad and post it here.

There are a couple of mods that cause issues with voices, one being the Cheydinhal Petshop. If you have that I have a solution which I just posted in another thread with a similar issue. Others are usually race and/or cosmetic mods.

Which Windows version do you use? It may have some bearing on installing and reinstalling the game particularly Vista and windows7.

And sorry, I got a little ahead of myself and deleted everything that I thought might be a problem. Like OBMM.

But anyways, I searched my ENTIRE computer for anything related to Oblivion, and deleted it. Trying to Install again. Will tell you if it works or not.

Kudos to you.

Thank you for helping me with this situation. I believe that there was some extra folders just sitting around that I needed to delete. Sure, I did delete OBMM, but I can just re-install.

Sometimes when I get, we'll say, "excited" about something like adding mods, I go in without thinking about the consequences. Then, frustration, bargaining, etc.

Again, thank you.

Hi everyone!

I experienced the same obstacle and I fixed it quite easily and quick: Disabling all the mods (in the ordinary selection window) - starting a new/saved game - closing Oblivion - enabling them again - restarting Oblivion. This way you can even use the mods further, which were marked as "conflicting" by the ModManager. These worked without problems before I have put this program in action. Therefore I got rid of it, because I thought of it being the root for all the mess. ( although I agree, that it can be a useful tool  ) Maybe I'll have to use it again, till then I am contented without.

If you insist on having some "unstable" mods, I suggest you play without ModManager. But just my opinion...

I don't really see how uninstalling or installing mod manager could solve or cause any problems? It mainly displays your load order, let's you change your load order, enables OMODS, shows conflicts (in a simplified way, but it does) and has a nice bsa option. It does not however actively change or screw over your mods. OBMM is not OBSE, it does not make mods work or not.
