DarkeWolf
I'm still trying to figure out Eamon's motives.I mean, I can understand that he cared about Maric. He cared about Alistaire. He cared about his country. But come on, Alistaire as king? Any thoughts as to hidden agendas, other motives for putting his nephew on the throne? brokenergy
I think he is doing the right thing and not in any hidden agenda to obtain power for himself. He seems like a good man and if he took the throne from Alistair it would be seen as opportunist. Also, remember that Alistair is the only member of the royal line, therefore it is his blood right to obtain the throne, even if he is a gray warden. He was also very reluctant to push Alistair to the throne anyway that's way they hid him from the public.
DarkeWolf
Eh, the whole situation with the throne, as a whole, was opportunistic. Loghain's grab for power, Howe's involvement (and I dont doubt for a moment that Howe planned to backstab Mac Tir and take the crown himself eventually!) and the possible ways that the Wardens could have gotten involved could DEFINITELY be seen as opportunistic.I mean honestly, if the outcome was that the king AND the queen were Wardens? Hrm, interesting thought there for the expansion. The queen or king of ferelden gets promoted to Commander? Anyway, back to Eamon. He knows Alistaire well enough to know that he wouldnt be much better at being king than Cailan was. He also knows that Anora would do a better job of it, despite the fact that he doesn't trust her.Myself, I think he's let it turn into a family feud. The Mac Tir's turned around and backstabbed the Theirins, so they need to be taken out. The answer he gave me when he found out that I was going to have Alistaire marry anora was "WELL! I wouldnt have done it THAT way."Which, also reaffirms my point. Alistaire is manipulatable. He didnt want to marry anora. He didnt want to perform the Morrigan rit. But yet, he was easy enough to talk into it, by somebody that he trusts. And depending on the play, he was easy to talk into marrying anora and giving up a person that he loves very much. I mean, Eamon as a trusted advisor to Alistaire could have talked him into pretty much anything. I know, that somewhere, back in the back of his mind, there had to be at least a very tiny voice that was telling him that. Its just human nature for that thought to cross his mind. brokenergy
Alistair is not known for his strong stance towards... anything but if you harden him it would be harder for you to make him do tasks. Alistair is also very lazy and is paranoid about leading that's why Anora comes into this equation as she can do a better job than him. Anora needs Alistair just as much as Alistair needs her, they work hand in hand.
Tikkidew
If Alistair is King Eamon will most likely become his adviser. That's at least one motive.
DarkeWolf
Not to mention that with Theirin blood on the throne, the Howes and the Couslands wiped out, he'd now be the most powerful figure below the king. Politically speaking, nobody wants to lose that.
brokenergy
Not all Howes and Couslands are dead, Fergus is alive in any gameplay (as he already left before attack and was saved by the Chasind) and Howes children are alive but have no title rights in the expansion. DarkeWolf
Oh yeah, good point. I forgot about brother fergie. Didnt even know about the howe kids. Hmmmmm, I think my warriors left a few things unfinished then!
rebalious
I believe Loghains accusation that he wants a puppet on the throne, and as a trusted adviser and father figure would be capable of controlling Alistair to some degree.
DarkeWolf
a trusted adviser and father figure would be capable of controlling Alistair to some degree.Indeed.Eamon's province does well tho. And most of his subjects support him. So in a lot of aspects I cant see his advice as being "bad". But yeah, with Al being king, that does move him up the proverbial ladder.
