ataris2145
I recently played Gates to Aesengaard: Part One for the first time. And let me tell you, I had no idea what to expect. Unfortunately, the entire quest left me rather mindblown, and I felt like never even bothering to play the sequels. The enemies were too hard. The thing was too tedious. The monotony of all of the stupid running around on islands and endless searching for notes and creepy rooms that led to nothing but spiders was driving me crazy. Needless to say, after the first 5 minutes, I was using the "unlock," "kill," and "tcl" commands quite frequently, along with god mode. And frankly, the entire thing was insanely long and drawn out to me even then. Sure, some of the visuals were okay, but really, in the end, I was wondering why the author couldn't come up with a quest mod that took hours to play--and not because of high quality, but because of high quantity. Does anyone else feel this away about the GTA mod series?
GOOGLEPOX
I have to disagree. As much as it was tedious in some parts, and extremely hard in others, I loved it. Besides the fact that it scared the crap outta me. :P
ataris2145
Interesting. For some reason, I wasn't really scared by it at all. The whole thing felt a little creepy, but to me, the tedium of it seemed to make the spiders in the darkness not very scary to me.
Leodoidao
This is just a matter of taste, it is something personnel. I just loved both episodes, lots and lots of people loved the too. On the other hand, many people disliked it. It is absolutely impossible for a mod to please everyone.
JCP768
It didn't seem too tedious to me, maybe a little bit, but not enough to drive me mad like some other mods/games might (Dragon Age: Origins seemed like a giant, tedious, "bloodfest" to me. Most people seem to agree with me too... At least when talking about the "Deep roads" part.) GTA had a nice atmosphere, a little creepy, and it understood an important part of being "scary"; which is: Being surrounded by creatures that are both nigh-invincible, and outnumber you greatly. In particular I'm talking about those gigantic giants scattered around. The story and rewards were also pretty decent. Regardless though, I would say in my opinion the mod is (gaaah what's the word!?!) Over-hyped? Over-popular? Eh, you get what I mean.... It was decent, but there's no motivation for me to ever replay it again. I tried episode II, but I had issues with the entire landscape being missing from the mod's new world space. It seemed interesting, and a bit more story/character motivated, but I eventually gave up on playing through it or getting it to work. This is by no means a condemnation of episode II, rather... I can't say anything about it because of issues, laziness, and complacency solely on my behalf.
Balakirev
Different strokes. Glad to see we're not witnessing an "I'm right, no I'm right!" fight over this. A couple of things to bear in mind, if you find yourself playing a lengthy quest mod that seems too combat-difficult in the future. First, if you're running MMM or OOO (or both), you could see things get very tough, very quickly, since both reconfigure the game in ways that up the battle ante. Second, you can always turn down the difficulty slider, until you find a happy compromise.

It has many new meshes and new creatures/enemies, but the core of the mod is the same as episode 1: an exploration non-dialogued quest in a mystic land--- oooh, and there are spiders too!!!
