ariinya
I have to admit... this mod has me entirely confused. I simply don't know how to use it, and going to the website provided on the download page does little to help me. Many of the links appear to be broken, and won't send me to the instructions pages. So... how does this thing work? Are the strange materials Bodahn now carries (such as scarlet tinted pieces of drakeskin) part of this? I find it incredibly confusing. DarkeWolf
Yeah, I have to agree that his website isnt that great at explaining how to go about this. Which is sad, because it's an awesome mod, but is FAR more complex in it's operation that it needs, or should, be. First, I know how to use version 3.3, and I havent yet had a chance to try version 4.0 so anything I tell you now, will be based on 3.3. 4.0 has some bugs that you will have to debug. I've got a thread that has a little bit of info about the new version here, and if you have issues with the debug it would be better to ask there, as I havent done that yet. http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=186911 1) You have to go talk to the new NPC in the camp, to enable the scroll reading skill. After that, you have to dump more skill points into it, to be able to read the higher level scrolls. (Like I said, complicated)After you sit and watch her blah blah blah for about two minutes, she enables your first skill. You purchase the scrolls from the dwarf there in camp, and the smith/armor there at the Dalish camp. That will allow you to use the abilities on the forge, once you decipher the scrolls.2) If you can't automatically decipher the scrolls when you recieve them..... click on them to get the radial menu and click the hand icon to try to use them. That will give it the command to try to decipher it again. If its one that doesnt try to decipher, then it's a scroll for ingredients, and you dont really need it. 3) There's two ways that you can do the actual forging. 1 way is with the materials check on, or off. I prefer OFF as it keeps my inventory nice and low, doesnt cost me anything, by not buying mats, and well... makes the process SOOOOO much simpler. Tho, you have to turn it on if you want to use colored materials, but I'll get back to that.To turn this function on and off, you have to go over and click on the weapon's barrel behind the elf. Theres one that says SEE THE CONFIGURATION OPTIONS.Pick that one, and choose DIABLE THE SUPPLIES CHECK. That turns it off so that you dont need the materials. You ahve to turn that to ON if you want to do colored weapons/armor tho. Now, you've got the option of OVERIDE MODE TO GET THE v0.3+ OPTIONS. Using that mode means that you do most of your work there on the forge, and dont have to deal with the elf. This also gives you the options to use the colored materials. If you have that set to the other options, you have to go thru the elf's dialogs to do it. 4) To use the colored materials you have to be in v.03+ mode, and have to select to use colored materials thru the materials menu, its teh very last choice in that menu, and then opens up yet another menu to choose which color, which type of material. Thats about as far as I've gotten. Most of the things that you can add, you find in the various menus.
tgvulcan
Right now the mod is to complicated for no reason. I learned how to do everything and it's just simply a pain that's not worth it. I ended up just using codes and that's like god mod so i now only use it to upgrade weapons and armor bases on the anvil as well as cosmetics. That's the best feature by far imo. To do that as darkewolfe said you just put the item on the anvil and get a piece of material you want to upgrade it to (i.e. dragonscale, dragonskin). It does cost money though. DarkeWolf
Oh! Heh heh, thanks for bringing that up, I totally forgot to mention that to upgrade items you have to put them in/on the anvil. Can only put one item at a time in there too.
DarkeWolf
I also forgot to mention this before.... I'd recommend this mod to compliment winter forge. metagame items- http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13 so that you dont have to spend your hard-earned skill points on a freakin' mod! Phaenan
I have to admit... this mod has me entirely confused. I simply don't know how to use it, and going to the website provided on the download page does little to help me. Many of the links appear to be broken, and won't send me to the instructions pages. The website is a time consumming leech, so many guides are indeed missing at the moment. Which won't be solved soon as I don't have much time, anyway. However most features are described in the version history, and I believe that's a good start for newcomers to the mod since - after all - it does describe in details what can be done. So... how does this thing work? Are the strange materials Bodahn now carries (such as scarlet tinted pieces of drakeskin) part of this? I find it incredibly confusing. How does it works. Err. Let's assume the two tutorial quests included are clear enough about the craft skill part. 'Cause I'm sure they're, actually. As for the anvil, it's there for item creation/modification. Going through the dialog, the options should be self-explicatory most of the time ; and otherwise explicitly explained. Of course, it may take a while to get used to it, but it can't be helped. (no, really, it can't)Finally, the material supplies found in some stores can be directly used (right-click) on the equipment currently on the controlled character. They are also automatically used in material changes during items creations/modifications via the anvil. (assuming the freemats mode is disabled, cf. config help) I've got a thread that has a little bit of info about the new version here, and if you have issues with the debug it would be better to ask there, as I havent done that yet. http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=186911Nice initiative. However if people wants my help and / or report bug, they may want to use the proper feedback channel. 1) You have to go talk to the new NPC in the camp, to enable the scroll reading skill. After that, you have to dump more skill points into it, to be able to read the higher level scrolls. (Like I said, complicated)What's "complicated" about a skill having four ranks. Rhetorical question. That's the basis of every other craft skill in DAO, why should it be any different here since that's what TWF is about : a new craft skill. 2) If you can't automatically decipher the scrolls when you recieve them..... click on them to get the radial menu and click the hand icon to try to use them. That will give it the command to try to decipher it again. If its one that doesnt try to decipher, then it's a scroll for ingredients, and you dont really need it.Hmm. Can see the idea, but by reading this people may assume there are scrolls for ingredients and others for learning recipes/formulae. It's not the case, there are only scrolls, performing both functions depending on being known or not. 3) There's two ways that you can do the actual forging. 1 way is with the materials check on, or off. I prefer OFF as it keeps my inventory nice and low, doesnt cost me anything, by not buying mats, and well... makes the process SOOOOO much simpler. Tho, you have to turn it on if you want to use colored materials, but I'll get back to that. You don't have to switch the "free materials" flag on to use colored materials. They'll be in the menu like any other. But here, you are actually confusing "free materials" and "override mode", in which case the configuration guide may be a good read. Yeah, I have to agree that his website isnt that great at explaining how to go about this. Which is sad, because it's an awesome mod, but is FAR more complex in it's operation that it needs, or should, be. Right now the mod is to complicated for no reason.Meh. It'd be wiser to assume I had my reasons, be it design decisions or script API limitations, even if they ain't clear to you.
DarkeWolf
All I'm going to say is that it would be a lot, LOT simpler if there were a LITE version.Especially since some of the scrolls are in locations that cant be returned to, on advanced characters. And characters that are younger, won't have the skill points yet, to devote to using the scrolls unless they've had this mod installed from the very start. Dont get me wrong, I'm loving this mod. Just not some of it's implementation. I'm not looking for the "easy way out" just saying that it's not really very good for newer characters, or endgame characters.
