Problems with inventory items

Recommended Posts

Hmmm...about this Items-Not-Showing -In-New Char's-Inventory...

Happened to me (surprise. surprise :D) with cheat bow & daggers mod (surprise. surprise :D).

I saw and even copied dhe How To Do It guide with deleting items-save-uninstall-load-switch character-save exit-reinstall-load sequence.

Did it. Didn't work.

And then, O brothers, it dawned to me: Game is misinterpeting saves from existing characters and counts your new one as if he/she has already received the item.

Hence my solution: Before you start new game, remove the folders with all your existing characters to another place (desktop for instance).

When you start the new game everything is in your new char inventory.

Save.

Put back the saves of old characters.

Done :D

I admit it isn't as elegant and complicated as the long procedure but, brothers, it worked like charm :D

I just tried this, but on an existing character, not on one before starting a new load. Didnt work on an existing character.

And I have to say, didnt work on a new character either.

I HOPE that this works for others tho, as it would make this problem soooo much easier to fix.

And thanks much for posting your solution! Like I said, hopefully, it works for others.

But yes, you surmise correctly that the issue is because of the game incorrectly reading savegames, and causing bleedover into new characters because it thinks that they have already received the items.

Actually, I just found new info while hunting around in the mods files sections.

Turns out I found out the method that they used to block DLC content (tho, no fix for it, since we can't access those files yet) from awakening. Those basterds added a block list in patch 1.03. So any item that resembles such and such and such from the DLC's gets blocked before your savegame loads up, or a new character gets loaded into the game.

I dont think that their intention was to screw up Origins like this, but yeah.... they hosed us REAL damn good with that one.

So if it's one of the items that gets blocked by 1.03, we've got about four options.

1) Forget about using that mod till the community figures out how to kill that list, or wait for 1.04 (IF BW tries to fix the issue). Either way on that one, it could be a while.

2) Uninstall the game, reinstall, and don't patch to 1.03, and forget about playing awakening.

3) Pester the authors to update their mods so that the item's names, and mod names, dont include anything that come close to a list that we dont know what it contains.

4) Attempt to edit these particular mods ourselves, renaming so much stuff to generic names.

Honestly... this makes me VERY glad that I made a backup of my game folders before installing 1.03/awakening, because I'm gonna be uninstalling that piece of crap

2) Uninstall the game, reinstall, and don't patch to 1.03, and forget about playing awakening.

This is exactly what I have done, uninstalled DAO and reinstalled to 1.02a. The problem is that my DLC items are still not appearing in my inventory (well except for Blood Dragon Armour and The Lucky Stone).

I can't see what more I can do at this stage

Oh man, this is NOT something that I wanna hear.

Have you tried creating cleaned saved games, after reinstalling?

Uninstall the mods. I recommend uninstalling all of them, there's no way of telling which ones have been affected by patch 1.03 and which ones havent.

Load each character which has a saved game. Click to approve the forced load. hit your escape key (esc) click on save game, create new save. name this save something completely different than any other saved game that any other character has. for example, cleansave1, cleansave2, cleansave3, etc. log out.

head to the next character, do the same. repeat untill all characters have a new saved game. completely exit DA.

Reinstall mods. Open new cleaned savegames to see if it worked.

Thanks for the reply DarkeWolf - I don't actually have any old save games, I deleted them all with the uninstall (figured that gave me an excuse to play through the game a few more times! ). It is very strange that even with a completely fresh install my old items which worked perfectly well before are now broken, I'm guessing there is perhaps some registry files that weren't deleted with the uninstall that the game is still seeing?

Either way I'm admitting defeat at the moment and am going to install Awakening and play through it for a while, hopefully by the time I tire of it and want to come back to Origins these issues will be fixed although I'm not too optimistic about that possibility...

No problem

You're correct, there are some registry entries that need to be deleted. I just finished my SECOND reinstall of Origins, and I think I came across something like 6-7 Dragon Age entries that I got rid of. Tho, I havent made it to the point of reinstalling mods yet, to see if they work now or not.

I used Revo Uninstaller to get rid of it, which can automatically search for the reg entries, And then after that I used Ashampoo WinOptimizer to clean up, and it found a whole SLEW of leftovers.

but opening regedit.exe and having it do a search for bioware can also find them, then right clicking on them can get the edit and delete options. NOTE- I VERY VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND CREATING A RESTORE POINT, OR A BACKUP OF YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE MAKING ANY ATTEMPTS AT EDITING YOUR REGISTRY. If you screw up, you WILL regret it !!! If you hose your registry bad enough, you can be forced to format, and reinstall everything on your computer.

Just a word of the wise, to those who don't know what they are doing, and read this.

eh, Awakening only takes a few days to finish. I dont really see a fix for these issues coming about in that short of time
