Zuperbuu
Hello there, I run Oblivion on an ACER ASPIRE LAPTOP 5738G, using Windows 7 since Vista was on previously and caused lots of bugs. I have Oblivion's graphics set to medium/high and the game runs perfectly, super smooth...no lagg or stuttering of any kind (until the epic battle with the Seige Crawler, that hurts. lol) So why is it, that when it comes to autosaving and manual saving, that I get a delay of 1-2 minutes? Normally this wouldn't bug me, but when I'm being chased by a horde of gaurds or angry vampires I like to be able to keep momentum going so I can high-tail it without being all 'hmmm, let it load...let it load...ah there we go, wait...where was I going?'I haven't installed any new mods for over 6 months (I did, however, update my Elsweyr mod as it was 6 months out of date!)I have been playing Oblivion on this laptop for those 6 months, and on my PC for 2 years (with the exact same stuff on it)I have started new save files, they're effected on the word go.Lowering my graphics doesn't solve this problem. Any mods or simple fixes that will resolve this issue will be most welcomed.
Jenrai
First guess would be saved game bloating matey. Check your save files... what size are they? Although I wouldn't imagine that would affect new saves, unless you mean new files with the same toon... Hmmm. Check em anyways. Anything larger than about 10 - 12mb seems to be heading into the dangerzone. If thats the problem, the best fix I know of it is built into wrye bash. Zuperbuu
By new I mean a brand new character, starting from scratch at the start of the game. I checked my save files, the highest is 5.8KB. So I doubt it's that. I deleted 2 of my saves to see if that helped, but it hasn't changed it all that much. I have noticed, however, that my machine is starting to overheat when I play on the game for longer than 2 hours on medium/high graphics. Because this is a laptop and not a PC, I beleive there's only so-long it can handle Oblivion before it decides to kill itself. (IE. Crash)I tried letting my machine cool down and then see if the 'slow save/autosave' still happened, and it did. So it's not related to teperature of hours played, the problem starts from the go. So I have ruled out the possible problems/causes:1. It's not graphics related, my machine can handle it.2. It's not savegame bloating (from my knowlege, it's very VERY far off that)3. It's not how long Oblivion is played for.4. It's not background tasks (I disable as many as I can before playing)5. it's not the Elsweyr Mod, I had the new version installed for 2 weeks and I didn't experience problems. Just as a quess, I beleive it could be (and please correct me if I'm wrong, I wish to rule out as many possibilities so I get the issue narrowed down): 1. OBSE may need updating (not sure if it does)2. OBMM may need updating (load order, possibly)3. Oblivion may need patching (I use Game of The Year and have Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles installed, I cannot remember if I patched the game or not)4. My computer may need defragging. If you beleive any one of these 4 is the cause of the save-lagging (I get this delay even when fast travel, sleeping or waiting happens as it uses autosave) then please say so, and tell me what I should do. I've never experienced save-lagg before, so I'm unsure of how to deal with it. XD
MonsterHunterMaster
1. What version of OBSE do you have? 2. I don't think it's cuz of OBMM.3. What version is your Oblivion. (In another thread the members say Oblivion patches itself when you have the game of the year edition. I have it myself and somehow I needed to patch it myself. Try to patch it up to v. 1.2.0416.)4. It's always good when you defrag your computer. So just defrag it one time, maybe it helps a bit.
Zuperbuu
my version of OBSE was I beleive version 5, I updated it a month ago but I don't know what version it is now. (there was a link to the latest OBSE in Drake the Dragon's race thread, I downloaded that one)How can I check what version of Oblivion mine is? I don't want to wait an hour to download the patch if I don't need it.I'll try defragging my laptop now.
bben46
If you have installed the Shivering Isles disk from the GOTY, then you are fully patched - for some reason Beth put the Oblivion part of the patch in with the SI patch -DO NOT use the Oblivion only patch from the Beth site as that will cause a problem when you have SI. The latest stable version of OBSE is 17b However, the mod by Drake the Dragon seems to require the beta (Not quite ready for prime time) version 18 beta 4 or higher, It's currently up to beta 6.Both versions are Available FREE from the author's site: http://obse.silverlock.org/ The latest OBMM is here: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097 Your hard drive would have to be heavily fragmented to take that long to do a save. Or be over 75% full. Run the hard drive cleanup first, then the defrag. It will take a while but could be worth it The dragon race mod is also a beta and may be causing some problems.based on this statement by the author: "Latest state of the project before my laptop died + newer additions and upgrades done without any means for testing it myself." He released an untested beta in the hope that people would tell him what needed to be done to get it right.
Zuperbuu
thanks I tried updating OBSE but there where no changes, so I'll try the defrag and harddrive cleanup! :) EDIT: Even doing the harddrive cleanup and defrag made no changes to the autosave/save delay. Oblivion runs even better than ever now, but just the saving issue remains. I'm at a total loss as to why this is happening. :/
Zuperbuu
UPDATE: I found the problem, it seems it is infact Drakes mod. Something to do with script tokens causing a save bloating effect, not sure how to fix this yet without having to start every savefile from scratch without the mod enabled. We shall soon see. This thread may now be locked, I'll try all I can to fix this situation with Drake now.
melkormgc
I had the same problem, turns out a mod caused it. Disabled the mod and now it works fine.
