clockout1
As most of you probably know, stem cell research is one of the major debates of this time period. I don't want this to turn into a big "It's wrong!" "No it's not!" kinda thing, but I do want your thoughts. For those of you who don't know what it is, let me explain. Stem Cell research involves taking cells, called stem cells (who woulda thought) from an embryo and using them on other people. The reason is because of the very nature of stem cells. Basically, they are the wild cards that can develop into whatever type of cell is needed. This can be incredibly helpful to those, for example, with damaged nervous systems. The stem cells will develop into nerve cells, which will repair the nerve. The debate is over how the cells are obtained. Huge controversy over where life truly begins, whether it is the moment the egg is fertilized, or when the baby is actually born. So, what do you think? Zephyr2011
I feel like the whole debate about weather it's right or wrong to take stem cells from embryos is pointless because everyone has stem cells including adults that are wild cards however they are more difficult to obtain and in fewer numbers than in embryo's if the stem cells are direly needed they can be obtained without stepping into the whole ethical arena of embryo exploitation... Vagrant0
The ethical irony here is that stemcells could be obtained from miscarriages who are currently just either discarded as medical waste or flushed away like excrement. The amount of material which could be recovered from these natural expulsions that result from a failed pregnancy would more than satisfy any demand. So much for the value of life... Politics win out in the end. Edited March 14, 2010 by Vagrant0
