How come no-one has made a companion out of a Think Tank?

Okay, so, this many years into Fallout NV and modding, you would think everything has been made into companions already- protectrons, ants, dogs, and even deathclaws. But there is one thing I have yet to see, one thing that would seem so obvious- a Think Tank.

There are many Fallout: New Vegas players(myself included) who take interest into the more scientific and mechanical side of things-energy weapons, robots, things of that nature.

WARNING-Spoiler for Old World Blues ahead-

So I think(no pun intended) that a Think Tank would be an interesting and new companion. As clearly seen at the end of Old World Blues, they do have weapons, although a bit non-powerful, it would be extremely interesting to see a Think Tank companion.

I think because they are somewhat unique (just the 6), but I do have some story lines for a mod I'm working on (Old World Blues Expanded), where some of the think tanks become temporarily a companion during specific quests.

But I'm sure someone will throw together one soon(ish). Buuuuuuuuut if you have a good idea for a personality of a new one, something that really captures the imagination I'd be willing to put the work in to make it happen.

What if you make one that is in denial and thinks he's/she's still human? And eventually you explain that she's a think tank now and then you go on a quest to find him/her a new body?

Not a bad idea, there was a similar story plot in Dr. Who (Asylum of the Daleks).

Spoiler if you havn't seen the episode;

A "young lady" named Oswin, was kept on a Dalek asylum/prison planet. After risking life and limb the doctor reaches her to find that, unbenownst to her, (or at least her conscious mind, was repressing it) she had been converted into a Dalek (apparently she was kept because she was a genius). Things didn't end well for Oswin.

Another idea, building on the theme you suggested, is Dala being converted back to a human. She seems obsessed with cravings of the flesh.

I was think Dala too, but I feel that without the original voice actress, the maker will have to rely heavily on used dialogue, kind of like the joana companion, and to me, it's just a little off putting and kind of static, making the companion seem more of a just follower rather than individual with personality. Granted, idk what the OP wants in terms of original or not, or even voice acting, but I think something with it's own personality would work best, because you wouldn't have to worry so much about continuity either. Good idea though. P.S. On a separate note, I don't want to rush you but I was wondering if you were still working on the eyebot by any chance? @devinpatterson

It seems obvious by the request that I'm not a modder, but I am at some level a modder. If you do decide to put work into a Think Tank companion, Perhaps a few texture changes(which I could do, then send to you) would make it LOOK unique. As for the personality, the denial bit is interesting.

Anyway, yea, if you decide to work on this, I would be willing to help.

My opinion on voice acting has gone back and forth. At times I'v thought it was essential to have a voice actor when creating a companion of any real depth. But I'v sort of settled on the idea that even if you have to use just txt the project (if well written) can still be worthwhile. A popular mod, especially a companion done well, can gather enough popularity to attract potential voice actors after it's release.

Yeah, I think that's something of an open question we are all deciding right now. I'll probably make a basic companion with command wheel fucntionality and release it for the request intially. But I hope that we can take it further in an extended project to give the think tank real character and depth (whether that's a new think tank, Dala or ??).

No, I have a lot of projects and I'm not modding at the moment, just bouncing around the forums checking out ideas and trying to help peeps. But you should pick out which eyebot you want (I think there are at least three in the pics) so I know which model to apply the texture to.

I don't think I'll need any help with the texture, it's pretty simple stuff. But what I'd really appreciate is good ideas for the companion. A great plot, personality or quest will have the greatest chance of motivating me to create a full featured companion.

Ok, I'll think on it, and post back on this thread.

What if he/she was working on something the other Think Tanks did not like/approve of, so he/she left into some other research center to continue his/her research?

And the other Think Tanks simply refuse to talk about him/her.

Perhaps a quest could involve helping with said research, after which he/she becomes a companion?

I'll leave it to your discretion, your good at what you do. Just send me the link for download on the original thread.

@OP, I think personally, and you don't have to agree me on this but I think maybe a female lab assistant who was one of the prototypes for the the think tanks, who unwillingly was forced to go through procedure would be really interesting. Maybe her body was kept in frozen storage or something which can be part of the quest to go find it. Also, I think she should have sort of a "Alice stuck in Wonderland," kind of personality, where she's naive and innocent but also has a bit of a snarky sarcastic side. Make her really smart because I feel like a lot of the companions we have now, although they aren't stupid, none of them strike me as incredibly intelligent. One of her abilities could be, whenever she's in your party, she's able to unlock any door or terminal, and gives you a 10+ skill bonus on science. Something to work with.
