SCRIPTING QUESTION

Zephyr2011

Recommended Posts

I'm attempting to make a mod that makes zombie's unkillable except by hitting them in the head while other attacks can disable their limbs or lob them off all together. Is it possible to detect what section of the body is hit by the attack so that I can remove/disable the limbs and kill the zombie when the head is destroyed? I'd thought of possibly making a hidden armor that protects their entire body except the head and has such a ridiculous armor rating that they can only be harmed there but I'd rather not do that as it prevents the immersion of destroying their limbs and possibly forcing them to crawl or lie on the ground after destroying their legs or arms or even severing their head from the body (you have tod estroy the brain to actually stop the head from trying to bite you). Please let me know if this is possible. I browsed the various script commands on the CS wiki but didn't find anything that seemed like it would work. Thanks for any help your able to provide.

My suggestion would be to look at some of the modders who are the serious code monkeys and using OBSE to force the game to do things it isn't designed to do. (The Deadly Reflex mod comes to mind.) Outside of ragdoll physics I doubt vanilla OB recoginzes localized hits to the head or limbs the way FO3 does.

Good concept though and I hope you get help.

Thanks for the help after browsing sme of the files on the nexus I've seen some mods that use where-do-you-hit systems or at least appear to. I didn't even think about deadly reflex and I use it *slaps forhead* thanks again

This is a really cool mod idea. It would totally change how the zombies feel in the game.

Now, instead of them just being weirdly moving humans, more or less, a few hits and they're "dead"; you would have to deal with all the parts. As if the zombies weren't gross enough already!

Would it also be possible to make FCOM plugins for all the new zombies added by that?

The plan is actually to make them accurate to "The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From The Living Dead" by Max Brooks including Solanum and its effects to make zombies actually a terrifying experience and making one of their attacks 100% disease transmitting a disease that after 16 hrs your pretty well dead and only praying to a diety can cure it. Im definitely going to make an MMM plug in as i use it ill probly also make plugins for FCOM and its other individual parts as well as any popular mods that incorporate zombies (TotF comes to mind) in dungeons and etc. It really isnt a horribly difficult task as mist of the work is in learning to animate an attack the rest is script work although i may diversify zombies more in the future.
