furzball
I'm trying to get FO3 to work on my lower end windows vista laptop. It's only 2 years old and should be able to play it (Ive gotten it to work before going into windows xp with said laptop but because it is an acer it tends to not like downgrading so I couldnt go online and such) Any mods that can help? I'm interested in similar modifications. I have been working for the last few weeks to get FO3 to run on my netbook. In the last week, with the help of some other experementers I did get the game to load. It was not what could be described as playable. I'd love for some way to make it more playable, like better than 15 fps at most of the time. The thread that got me there is HERE. I'm not knowledgable enough to know how it can help you, but good luck. Others may be able to help you more if they know more about what your computer's specs are. P3G4SU5
Hi, I was actually researching ways to increase the visual appeal of the game and came across this: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,666878/Fallout-3-Better-graphics-with-ini-Tuning-comparative-screenshots/News/ where values in the.ini were increased to improve the graphics - however it may be possible for you guys to do the reverse and reduce the values to relieve some of the graphical demand if you're looking to get higher fps. As a sidenote - I'd make a copy of the original .ini to be on the safe side just in case you break something. I'd be interested to see if this works. Hope it helps  . Seems you'll have to copy + paste the full link into your address bar to get there. Edited March 23, 2010 by P3G4SU5
GrandsonOfSam
There are a few mods for low end computers (can't remember the names), but if you start tweaking your .ini (Backup, and be very careful), you might be interested in Fallout 3 Tweakguide. I found it very useful to crop out some unneeded eyecandy, and get more of the enhancements I did want. Just be aware, that some of the settings can make the game extremely unstable. I was able to tweak my FO3 from 1-3 crashes every hour to 1 crash every few days myself.
Cipscis
Don't be too worried about messing with your *.ini files. If you screw up, then you can just delete them and Fallout 3 will regenerate them from a template when you next run it. Just make sure that you're editing the files in the same directory as your "Saves" folder, not the ones in your installation folder.
