Oblivion itch

I've been getting the itch to install Oblivion again, been playing FO3 for a few months now and it's been more than a year since cranking up Oblivion. When I last played I didn't know much about mods etc. Didn't really realize what was out there until I found the Nexus for FO3. So what mods do I HAVE to have for Oblivion. I think Operation Optimization was the only mod I used last time.

I was also wondering if I am going to have any problems with the Direct-2-Drive version I have, I seem to remember seeing some mods for FO3 that wouldn't work with that version, is this a problem with Oblivion as well? Thanks for any suggestions.

What kinds of mods? Well, I really love Midas Magic, for one. It's the only magic mod that doesn't ruin the game's balance but still adds a lot of flair. Plus, the NPCs it adds actually have voice acting, something you don't see often in mods.

I also love Castle Seaview, which is the best and most detailed castle mod I've found so far. It's far better than Bethesda's Fighters Stronghold, even if it is a bit less... expansive. It's far taller, though, and there's an interesting quest (with some cool hidden areas and secret objects) that comes with it.

And Akatosh Mount is another fun one, it adds a ridable flying dragon tot he game, but it DOES make the game a tad bit too easy. Only use this if you are okay with ruining your game's difficulty balance.

Unfortunately, OBSE will not work with the D2D version. So any mod that requires OBSE is out. Midas requires the latest v1.2.014 patch, but not OBSE.

If you need the patch, you must get it from D2D as the one on the official Bethesda site will not work with the D2D version.

Without OBSE many popular mods will not work.

Unofficial Oblivion Patch

If you have Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine or any of the DLCs then get the unofficial patches for those as well (all but SI is found in the Unofficial Mods Patch).

I'd also suggest some sort of UI (user interface) mod, which allows you to see more of your inventory rather than constantly scrolling through it because the default screen only shows 4 items at a time or whatever it is. I liked the BTMod but I had trouble getting it to work with the steam version (I don't know about Direct2Drive) so I went with Darnified UI (which there is countless variations of the Darnified UI to choose from).
