Armadax
I have a REALLY weird problem. Recently when ive installed mods (i always do it manually, dropping the files in the data folder and add it in the launcher) they dont appear ingame. It is as if the mods arent really added though ive dropped the files where they usually go and i check them in the launcher. Im running Vista 64 and im running the launcher and exe as administrator. I havent had problems with mods before it started recently. Any ideas? :S
bben46
When a mod is installed and checked in the load list (you did remember to check them didn't you?) And then just does not show at all in the game, I automatically suspect UAC - which blocks mods but dosn't tell you that it did. Best to install the game outside of the UAC protected program folders. Disabling UAC just opens your computer to the first virus that sneaks passed your antivirus. For Vista and Win7 related problems such as UAC, Check here: http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=262.

The question is: If i disable UAC will the mods instantly work or will i have to reinstall oblivion anyway?
Khet
they'll instantly work like they should, no need to reinstall.
MonsterHunterMaster
But as bben already mentioned, you easily get viruses if you disable UAC. I would suggest you just reinstall into another folder like C:\Games\Oblivion. Maybe reinstalling takes some time, but better you "waste" Your time on reinstalling than "wasting" Your time on deleting viruses!
bben46
Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It will allow you to keep all mods, save games and even the Oblivion.ini if you have made any changes to it. It does not keep OBMM or OBSE, you will have to reinstall them as well as any other utility programs that are not in the existing data folder. OBSE components can be copied to the new location, but OBMM needs to be reinstalled.

No offense, but I've had UAC disabled since getting Vista... not a single virus. In my opinion, UAC is nothing more than an exercise in frustration. With the proper care and (free) programs, you can protect your computer better than UAC with half the hassle.
MonsterHunterMaster
I wasn't offended by Your post :) Of course you can disable UAC if you have good antivir programs, but keep in mind to update them (I would suggest searching every day for updates, then you should be on the safe side!) Khet
Automatic updates for the win. :) But honestly, UAC is good for folks that don't know computers very well. But if you know your way around them (and how to take care of them) disabling UAC will solve more problems than it causes, in my opinion.
