CTD When Loading Old Game or Starting New

I recently re-installed Oblivion, played v1.1.xxx with my old mods and it worked fine. However when I updated to v1.2.416 so I could use OBSE, it began to CTD every time I started a new game or loaded an old one. The loading screen would appear, the bar would get about a quarter of the way across and then bam, desktop. Not sure what's wrong, should I clear out all of the mods I'm using and then hunt them all back down and re-download?

Probably there's an issue with your oblivion.ini file. Try deleting everything in the Oblivion folder located in your "My Documents" section (after backing them up of course) except for the Saves folder. You should always clear this folder when reinstalling, however it is easy to forget.

If you have a mod that requires OBSE, you MUST start with the OBSE launcher and not the Oblivion launcher or it will crash. There is an OBSE launcher built into OBMM so if you launch Oblivion from inside OBMM it will automatically start OBSE first for you.

I've tried launching with both OBMM and the OBSE launcher in my Oblivion program file, even disabled the mods that required OBSE and launched regularly, and the problem persists, even after deleting the files in the Oblivion documents file, so I don't think it's the mods that are the problem, but something that got in when I updated to v1.2.416, as it worked fine before I patched up.

That patch has worked with no problems for thousands - or perhaps millions of people. It is available FREE both at the official Beth site and right here on TesNexus. Both of these are clean. If you got it somewhere else, especially from a torrent site, I cannot vouch for its authenticity.

The virus and malware people love the torrents as anyone can put anything up anonymously and claim its something it's not

"Download the free copy of a game and get a free virus included as a bonus! And for the next 250,000 customers we will throw in this absolutely FREE antivirus scan blocker so you will never know the virus is running in the background waiting for the command that turns your computer into a zombie spam machine.":whistling:

I downloaded it from the TESCS Wiki, so I'm sure it was clean. It worked properly with these mods the last time I played as well, going to try completely clearing Oblivion, mods and all, and starting from scratch, because I remember when I attempted to install QTP3 I started encountering serious problems with CTD's all over the place.
