Lord Of The Rings

I been thinking of making a middle earth mod reachable through an oblivion portal but based in a future tense of what happened to mordor and a new enemy perhaps.

I been reading up on the construction set and from what i seen it should be possible although if anyone else has thought about doing a similar mod about middle earth that would be cool too.

"Now shutdown due to legality issues, these forums contain information regarding the late Middle-Earth Mod for Morrowind."

Ahh well if i did make this id have to keep it to myself. Or anyone who made one would have to keep it to theirselves too. A shame but understandable.

I guess if any lands were to be made they would have to be an original concept and not based on any particular theme. damn.......nothing wrong with originality though.

It's weird because the game is so suited for LotR (those oblivion gates are so similar to the Eye, for example), and I know there were TONS of NWN mods for LotR for years without incident. But oh well.

(It's just a comment, I'm not debating.)

I hope they make a lord of the rings game akin in style to the elder scrolls school of open play one day. So far the lord of the rings games have sucked mainly due to the fact that it's usually based on the films, its on rails style action, not a true rpg in any sense.

I think middle earth could be well realised with graphics like oblivions and similar gameplay as you should be able to explore all of middle earth doing mini quests or following the trail of the fellowship.

I of course wouldnt ask whoever owns the rights to LOTR to copy oblivions gameplay though and should have a uniqueness of their own but be inspired by the openess of the way oblivion is put together.

...............if that makes sense.

tolkien estate are VERY protective over the works and its no suprise that EA would hoard its licence like a scrooge.

it is a shame because as a free mod it would be amazing but it appears jelousy gets the better of the big companies once again... *sigh*

so much for creative expression.

Nah EA own the rights to the film licenses of the games but i think its vivendi who own the book licenses so theres hope yet that a decent game will come out.

I swear if another lord of the rings strategy game or an action game comes out or one with on rails style sections all the way through I will scream and post numerous bad reviews on sites.

Free roaming rpg is where its at and thats what makes oblivion so good and the early final fantasy games too. I was dissapointed when they removed the world map later on in the series as it just felt like you didnt play a big part in the game you just followed others.

Are you sure? Because I seem to remember there being a big deal made of Battle for Middle-Earth 2 (pooe) because it had lore from both the books and the films. You could still be right about the license though I guess, they could have farmed it from Vivendi for a one-off.

LotR deserves on of the best games of all time - perhaps if Christopher Tolkien were to actually have a hand in creating one of the games rather than sitting around his mansion watching the money roll in we would be closer to that. I think Daerk et al were on the right lines with where a decent RPG for LotR would go - too bad no-one can make it without the license, and EA seems to have all the licenses and those bastards will never agree to pay for the development of a decent LotR game.
