Pronam
I was already considering doing this some while before as my oblivion disc was in bad shape, but I'm seriously getting ready to buy a new version as I don't want another install that takes hours because of the millions of scratches on the disc and its starting to give misreads when starting up oblivion. My biggest worry is its mod-ability. Even though I'm fairly sure I heard it's possible, are there any downsides from using steam? My primary reason to consider obtaining it from steam as I don't want another oblivion disc ruined like the one I have now. But if someone advises to get a hard-copy instead I'll rather get that one. My other concern is however is on how many pcs you may have this game? I have a laptop that has a good processor which I use a lot for quests :P, but my main is for building and editing. If the answer is no I'll probably stick to a disc. If it's partly meaning I have to reinstall oblivion, I'll still go for steam as I don't really mind doing so often. Unless there is a limited amount of activations :P.==edit, the last doesn't seem to apply. It says I can install and use my account wherever I want to. Hakello
Im using the steam version, works pretty much the same as a hard copy, only difference is the .exe (but since steam autopatches, can't do much wrong here) About the only mod that -does- have problems with the changed exe is also one of the most important ones, OBSE! However, their latest release has a special steam version, so that leaves pretty much no problems ;) Buttt, keep in mind that downloading oblivion takes a while, so if you're planning on totally screwing your oblivion up, you might want to make a clean backup to revert to in case it didnt work out. And steam is not a totally retarded DRM, no limmits on downloading or anything, it will simply bind the game to your account, and you can then download it everywhere you want, as long as you can log in. As soon as its installed, you can even go in offline mode and still play the game. And it also automaticly installs SI, Knights and all other add-ons, jaj. Pronam
Haha, I love the 'other uses'-part. Thank you for the link :). I'll try it out. Ok, thank you hakello :). But how about CS? Even if you're not a modder, could you check out if the construction set gets installed/ loads up properly? I can't recall any modders using steam.. It's here, at the official wiki. bamspeedy
And it also automaticly installs SI, Knights and all other add-ons, jaj. Careful....Read the description of the product you want to buy carefully. If it's not the 'deluxe', it won't include 'all other add-ons'. Game of the Year: SI + KnightsGame of the Year Deluxe: SI + Knights + all DLC I've been using Steam version of Oblivion along with using the CS, OBMM, TES4Edit, and TES4Gecko all seem to be working just fine (but I'm no expert to know if there are some incompatibilities I am just not noticing). OBSE made a .exe that is compatible (check the 'sticky' on the Steam-Oblivion forum), so that is not a worry like it was before they made that. Only problem I've had is getting BTMod (User Interface) to work with steam, though I have two disclaimers: 1. I decided to switch to DarnifiedUI anyways (though I don't like the small font in some places)2. Maybe I could have got them to appear if I fiddled with archiveinvalidation settings some more. I hadn't played the game in a year or so, so I kind of forgot what I needed to do because I had some problems getting textures to appear with other mods-but eventually I figured it out and got the textures from mods to appear on the steam version. Pronam
I've got the steam package after a little chat with a friend, otherwise you'd have convinced me.I picked the deluxe edition so finally I'll have all DLC on my pc as well. How did you get Tes4edit to work?? I doesn't recognize the directory at mine. It's one of my favorite tools, I'd not like to miss it!If it's because your version of steam is installed in the program files folder, that may be the reason at my end.It seems that oblivion wasn't uninstalled properly, that's why it couldn't find it. All other things seem to work however. I'll check out that sticky now.Thnx Hakello, I already made a backup to share it on my pcs without a download..but I'll keep it as indeed it took some fair hours.
