enocpac
Why is the Gauss Rifle so different from the Fo2 version? The Fo2 Gauss Rifle/Pistol had something about it that was just grand. The understated 'snap' of firing, and the explosive mauling of enemies that were hit; ejecting chunks of torso about. This weapon felt wonderful. In NV though, this weapon bugs me. It doesn't sound or act nearly as satisfying as it's predecessor. I always understood the 'Gauss' weapon as a tesla inspired railgun. There's no shell from which an explosive charge can occur, and why would there be an electric burst? The weapon fires chunks of heavy alloy or pellets, which blow people apart because of the incredible impact velocity generated from it's magnetic/charged coils. A clear misrepresentation of the inspired weapon, combined with the overall poor physics and gibbing of bethesdas' 'VATS' system (which I've never enjoyed) makes this weapon entirely irrelevant and unsatisfying. Not even to mention the one-shot, rediculous ammo consumption. Would love to see a truer representation of this weapon, and /or pistol variants which don't exist in NV as it is. WastelandAssassin
well, there is a problem with this concept due to how weapons work in the gamefor a real railgun styled Gauss rifle, you would have to load the projectile and the power source, as this weapon doesn't work on airseeing as these two can't happen in the game due to how the system works, we got the best possible gun that makes some kind of sense (well, i don't know how the gun was in FO2, so maybe that one was truly better and made sense) in all seriousness, all the energy weapons in this game are far fetched as all hell, seeing as you just can't produce such powerful laser beams on simple power cells, or spew plasma like that (again, at least as far as i know, and judging by weapon designs you can find on youtube)
