Question about modding.

Hi, (changing file Names)

I've read somewhere that when you change anything, you're supposed to rename it when using it for modding purposes or it may end up changing all of that item everywhere in the game.

I just want to be sure that I understand this correctly. I have a Ginseng Yellow plant and from when you double click the plant a window pops up- The Editor ID: (blank) Base ID: Ginseng Yellow (00189D19)

From Edit Base- ID: Ginseng Yellow NAME: Ginseng Plant

Now, I just change the name from the Edit Base ID and Name? For instance if I wanted to shrink the Ginseng Yellow plant down, I could name it... ID: GinsengYellowShrinkSmall, Name: GinsengYellowShrinkSmall?

Or would I also have to change the screen ID and Base ID also or just those two and not the other two?

Could someone please help me. I don't want to mess up my game or make any dirty mods. Thank you!

You can just change the BaseID and say YES to create a new form. Otherwise, yes any changes made will affect every one of that item in the entire game.

If the ID is say... WeapSteelCutlass ( for the Steel Cutlass weapon) you can change the ID to WeapSteelCutlass2 and create a new form. Then make any changes you want to WeapSteelCutlass2 and NOT affect any of the other WeapSteelCutlass (the original one) in the game.

To add to that:

If you shrink an item it's done outside of the BaseID it's knowledge/influence..that is stored to the Ref-ID.

Meaning...The Ref window doesn't screw up mods, that one is shown when you are in the world/render window.

If you double click at the Object window or go to the basic id of the plant via the render window. Meaning where you can rename the name of the plant and the BasicID, then you'll touch the basic and therefore all plants. Resizing the plant in the Render window is no problem and won't touch the other plants

I'm sorry, I get confused easily. I'm really paranoid about messing up the game or uploading a dirty mod.

But I think I got it.

I don't have to put a new ID in the Reference window ID if I shrink it or make it bigger.

But if I click on Edit base and change the object in any way from that window then I have to change the ID (base ID?) and Name of the object and then I should click Yes to the message box that asks if a new form should be created.

Is that right?

I don't mean to be a pain but I just need someone to verify my above post so I can continue to mod. I'm just hanging out on the forums right now waiting to see if I understand this right.

Thanks much. I really appreciate it.

Also, I asked in the request section too but if anyone could help me with creating ivy vines for me, I'd so much appreciate it. Here's the link... http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=190502

Thanks again.

No change required. That's just simple there to have a ref-name inside a script.

Unless you are planning to use those plans in a remote script you don't need to name them.
