LowMoose
Is there a way, through save editing or a mod, to decrease a character's level? It looks like the default level for a new character in Awakening is 18. I finished the main campaign at level 22, and the game was getting a bit too easy for my over-equipped and over-leveled rogue on Hard difficulty. I'd like to bump him back to level 18 to even out the playing field a bit.
DarkeWolf
If you havent actually TRIED awakening, before posting this question, you may want to play it first, before deciding on something like that. Awakening was more of a challenge for my lvl 25 warrior than Origins was. And trust me, she was very well tweaked when transitioned. To answer the question however, yes, your level is contained in your savegame file. I beleive it's "whatever savename".das that has that info. its either the .das or the .das .met file. both of those are containted in documents/bioware/dragon age/character/saves you will probably have a list of folders in there, numbered. should run from 1 to about 145, depending on how many different saves you have. the higher the number, the later the save. so for instance, 145 would be the last save. Or if it only goes up to say, 10, ten is the last save. make a backup copy of your savegame before you go messing around with it tho.

I based my assumption on Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar, which I thought were both on the easy side. I'm glad to hear they got the difficulty right in Awakening! DarkeWolf
Yeah, my warrior could pretty much walk right through a gang of average mobs in Origins. A dual sweep here, a flurry attack there, whirlwind when they come at me in group, and then a hit or two on each one to finish them off.DA:A..... up until I got to about level 33-ish, I was dumping about half my attacks on one mob to kill it. So yeah, that character went from being able to solo just about anything, to not minding when the rest of the party was around to help pick these guys off. ESPECIALLY against bosses. In the first ten minutes of the game, you fight a boss. One of these talking DS. I tried to solo him, and well, it took what seemed like forever. I could have killed flemeth 4-6 times on my own in the amount of time it took me to solo this guy. And that was WITH anders throwing heals on me  I also saw something that I wasnt used to seeing in DA:O..... party members yelling at me "I'm Hurt! I need healing!" So yeah, I had to pay attention to their health in the expansion too. One reason is that armor and armor piercing have changed in Awakening. Especially against bosses it is more dificult. I wouldnt compare it to nightmare mode, but its definitely a challenge. Also, in DA:A the mobs dont play by the same rules anymore. Set up your tanks and let them deal with the aggro while your mages pick stuff off at distance, right? Not in DA:A. I've had numerous occasions where mobs ran right past my melee fighters to make a beeline straight for my range fighters. IE- Archer and Mage. Mlai
From what I heard at Bioware Social, DAA is too easy. That's the consensus there.
DarkeWolf
My experience was otherwise, but I won't argue.
rebalious
As a rouge it was more challenging than origins. Do the Uber-Mages over there still complain about the difficulty?
LowMoose
I did not actually find either my character's level or current XP in the save game file.
DarkeWolf
I did not actually find either my character's level or current XP in the save game file. look at the picture attachment. the main section that you will want to expand is SAVEGAME_STORYSOFAR. Then under LEVELUPLIST, then 6, Then just look for what I highlighted.
LowMoose
Ah yes! How silly of me to assume that data related to the player character would be under SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR. I forgot the first rule of editing save games, that is, save games are not meant to be edited and are therefore arranged illogically. Thanks DarkeWolf!
