Modifying JSawyer.esp

OK, I'm starting up a new playthrough of New Vegas and I'd like to use jsawyer.esp. However, my load order is getting pretty cramped. So I'd rather not use the Courier's Stash DLC, cause that's four more on my load order than I feel like I need. So, I'm trying to modify jsawyer in FNVEDIT for my own purposes, so it doesn't need the Pre Order DLC. However, if I remove said files from jsawyer's masters, I get the error where New Vegas boots up, but there's not mouse cursor or main menu text. I've tried removing all entries in jsawyer that belong to the Courier's Stash esps, and no dice, still no main menu. I know the way Courier's Stash files work with the game is kinda (record injection or something) and that may have something to do with it, but really, I just want to use jsawyer without those files.

So, what I'm asking is: is there any way I could go about removing the Courier's Stash dependency from jsawyer in FNVEdit or the GECK, and still have my game, yknow, work?

Ugh, yeah it has some crazy way of loading things so that the stash's items appear to be in the main esm (ie 001735e0 instead of XX1735e0). I remember looking at it as a sort of guideline/instructional for compatibility, since it could reference a preorder mod if it was there, but it didn't slow it down if it was absent. I never got very far with it. I suspect it was implemented in the game engine with the point patch. But take that with a grain of salt, as I'm far from confident and that's just a poor newbie's best guess.

Honestly, if I were you I'd say the amount of work to figure this one out is *not* worth the slots your going to free up. If anything you can select the goodies you want from the packs, use the assets and make your own mod to include just those items (or all items, I mean there's only like 10 or something unique items). Then you'v only used 1 slot, and how hard is it to make a dozen or so items, right?

Ooops cr*p, sorry, misread the nature/meaning of your post, ignore my ramblings....

I figure it had something to do with the weird way that the DLC work causing my issues, but my main problem was the fact that I can't seem to edit the file in the manner I wish too since if I remove the masters in FNVEdit the game no longer works.

To remove masters from a plugin in *Edit, first change your load order so that the ESMs you want to remove are below the other masters required by the plugin. Then open it in *Edit, right-click the plugin and select "Sort Masters" to bump the FormID indexes of override records higher than the ones you want to keep. After that, find and delete all records in the plugin that override or reference records from the ESMs you want to remove. Then right-click the plugin again and select "Clean Masters" to remove them.

If "Clean Masters" does not remove the ESMs from the master list, you still have records that require them. Keep chopping.

That ended up working perfectly. I was manually removing masters from the file header before, but this worked out much better. Thank you very much!
