aseko
Hi guys, I'm getting fed up with Oblivion lol. I had an issue a few days ago where Oblivion would keep crashing as soon as my save file was loaded - even starting a new game would cause the same issue, so I decided to remove Oblivion via Steam, deleted registry entries, and removed the Oblivion folder from my Steam folder and in My Documents. Once I reinstalled the game I started up the game and made a new character, walked around for a bit and it worked no problem. As I wanted to continue my saved game, I downloaded all the mods I had originally, carefully read the install instructions and used tes4edit to clean the official dlcs before I continued my adventure. Having spent 6 or so hours meticulously reinstalling everything, the game keeps crashing after the Bethesda logo, and I'm completely stumped as to what might be causing it. I've attached a screenshot of my mods from OBMM to see if you guys can tell me if I've done anything wrong, or if anything doesn't look right, but I'm really annoyed by this now and hoping for some insight lol. http://i.imgur.com/t8R1O8x.jpg <- link to obmm. aseko
Okay, I think I've isolated the problem and it may have nothing to do with the mods I've downloaded but rather the official dlc and my devilmaycare attitude when cleaning them in tes4edit. I will continue to attempt to pinpoint the exact issue and which dlc, but I think it may be good to try to keep a record of what I'm doing incase any one else has these issues and are also daft like me :P
aseko
So a further update: I have no idea why, but it appears my issues are the cause of cleaning the official dlc with tes4edit. Having reinstalled three times already, and not cleaning the dlc seems to have worked. Very strange.
DrakeTheDragon
Maybe not that strange actually. Consider for a moment you didn't clean those DLCs when you last made your save. Now the save was automatically "dependent" on records inside the non-cleaned DLC plugin(s). This time you cleaned those DLCs and all of a sudden your savegame was "missing" game records it was dependent on. There's no other choice but to CTD under these circumstances. Savegame dependencies are a really fickle thing sometimes. That said, what's all this cleaning business about recently? I mean, I know what cleaning a plugin is and how it's done, but I can't remember ever having cleaned any plugin in my load order so far in the past, well, apart from my own ones prior to release, of course, and I also can't remember my 4 years of play time savegames ever having CTDed back then, until it was due to mod conflict in my load order which needed fixing, most often with just a reconfigured bashed patch. Oh, well, but to each their own. I for one just don't think I'll ever clean any other authors' plugins or even Bethesda's DLCs, as I simply never needed to. But that's just me.Anyways, always keep in mind the implications of your cleaning. This case presented here was a prime example of what can go wrong with it.

Yes, I guess I had got a bit overzealous with the mods I had, and other mods that I wanted to try out, and thought I should maybe start cleaning the official dlcs since everything I've seen so far has suggested to do so, but you do make an excellent point and one I never thought to consider. Truthfully, I'm quite new to the modding scene entirely! I am glad though that at least Oblivion is now getting past the Bethesda logo :P But for some reason, and I can't think for the life of me what's causing this, it has started CTD when resting/sleeping, and I have turned off auto-saves. Maybe I should just be thankful that I can keep playing, but without gaining levels, which kinda sucks :(
aseko
Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions to get around this ctd whilst waiting/resting? Would reloading a previous save resolve this, or would I have to start over? Edited July 16, 2014 by aseko

Sergio1992
According to be your problem lies in a bad installation of some of the plugins you've got. I would start slim and update stuff only after you know that everything was installed correctly.
