LastJohn
Sorry for the long post, wanted to add as much detail as possible. I don't really know how to explain this, but I have been working on a mod, so far its a big island, maybe about the size of two imperial cities. Anyways, its not a circle more like a rectangle island. I used the height map editor, I hate that thing with a passion, everytime I try to do something with it it crash's when trying to save or always get the error loading land height. But got it to work and made a small piece of land and no errors so I decided to go with that, started land scaping built a city and turned out magnificently so far. I go in game and check it out a lot to see how things are going. I noticed at one point going in game looking to the north (I am assuming north not sure though come to think of it) you can see the water but I say a couple hundred feet out you can see the water missing, it is a light blue color from a distance. Its a rectangle and its huge, about 80 feet wide and 300 feet long maybe. I jump in the water and swam there when I get there I can swim in it as if it was water, though you can see all the way to the ocean floor and its empty, no water, also I don't think I was able to drown either. Kept swimming straight and when i got to the other side it was water as far as the eye can see again but turning around and there it was. Its just a big patch of air sitting there. I said I will fix it later I was doing something, continue with modding but going the opposite direction and I think far out in the distance are more of these. Anyways, finally I make a small port quite far away from the city I built opposite side of this island and when I was done with the adding houses and everything and added some docks I went in game and checked it out, and in this small port of just a couple of houses looking off into the water and there is another one of those patches of mssing water. Anyways, I don't think its a hardware problem, my computer can handle any game on max settings. I also haven't place anything there or even gone near these patches modding wise. My island is fine however. Anyways, I have modded a lot for oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3 not so much in the past year. But I have never ran in to this problem. Anyone know what it is and how to fix it? Thanks.
robbo130
im having this problem too - similar scenario, small island, worldspace is a small world. Just on either side of a peninsula, two large patches of no water. I created the land using the heightmap editor, which was a nightmare in itself, and now these patches have appeared. I know your post was probably a while ago, but did you manage to fix it? Or does anyone have any fixes? Oh, and these patches weren't there the first time I tested the basic land structure (in game). Cheers, Robbo EDIT: try resetting your oblivion.ini file (the one inside ...\MyDocuments\My Games\Oblivion ). worked for me. maybe the construction set and/or the heightmap editor argues with some of the settings in the ini file. my suspicions are aimed at forcing/enabling 3.0 shaders. let us know how you go EDIT (AGAIN) : the variable in question here has been narrowed down to: uGridsToLoad=11 . apparently 11 is too large a number for the game to handle properly. no idea why i didnt have problems with it until i started modding, though...
