Playable Deathclaw Hybrid Race

I believe I can put that together. A lot of the heavy lifting was already done by other mod authors. I started a playable deathclaw mod a while back, but it languished due to a dearth of decent ideas (there's been quite a few playable deathclaw request posts).

 

But if we come up with some decent concepts/plots/etc I'll start working on it again.

 

The basis for my concept is Xarn and Goris produced two separate sub species of deathclaws, based on;

In any case, there is a chance that two intelligent deathclaws survived to continue on the species. I realize that they are both males, but that is fine. When they were engineered by the Enclave, the intelligence gene was made male specific and dominant. What this means is: Any intelligent male that mated with a non-intelligent female would (most likely) produce intelligent offspring."

 

Note Chris Avellone disputes this, but for our mod that's not particularly significant.

 

Our timeline is a maximum of 40 years between the first new birth and the time New Vegas starts. I never could find any info on maturation etc, but since they were a genetically engineered creature I suspect they were created to grow very quickly. None the less I'd guess we're talking a relatively small population of intelligent deathclaws. I'd imagine the small number (the fate of their race weighs on so few shoulders), paired with the fear generated if it was known there were intelligent killing machines, results in the deathclaws being very, very reclusive.

 

Tribe (descendants) of Goris; Albinism (resulting in dark gray hides instead of the deathclaws earth tones), on average higher intelligence than the tribe of Xarn (+1 int), but smaller and weaker (8-10 ST, 9 PE, 7-10 EN, 4 CH, 5-8 IN, 9-10 AG, 6-7 LK, health 134 to 187). Some of the tribe exhibit increased psi scores (limited telepathic and empathetic abilities).

 

Tribe (descendants) of Xarn; Larger, stronger and faster than the tribe of Goris, but also less intelligent and charismatic (9-10 ST, 10 PE, 8-10 EN, 1 CH, 3-5 IN, 10 AG, 10 LK, health 200 to 300), and have no known psi ability.

 

Hybrids; (descendants of intelligent deathclaws that have mated with normal deathclaws and diluted the bloodline to a significant degree). May not be a player race, rather used as a sort of tribal equivalent (neanderthal level intelligence).

 

I can remove perks that wouldnt' apply to the deathclaw and include new perks that would. So I thought there could be some sort of skill trees similar to skyrim for the deathclaws. Obviously there would be a warrior skill tree, but I think there are also a lot of possibilities for divergent trees. Psycher, infiltrator (disguise and such as the original Goris would pass for a deformed human), science (use human tech), etc. Growth could be a skill tree or based on time/food.

 

To do the above would require a new character/game, and accompanying origin story.....preferably starting with a baby deathclaw (saves us from having to build an extensive history/backstory, and his/her ignorance of the world fits the plot).

 

Perhaps something like this; A small family (mother, father and babies) is disguised and leaving the Mojave in advance of the encroaching NCR/Legion forces that are increasingly populating the desert. They are discovered in flight and attacked. The mother and father sacrifice their lives to protect the player (baby deathclaw) as they direct him/her into a small crevice cave (the humans, being larger, are unable to follow), where s/he falls into a cave system. At this point the DC (deathclaw) has no access to inventory (or any other aspects of the pipboy, vats, maps etc), but can move, sneak, attack (and eat) etc. During these subterranean adventures s/he will grow to become a young DC and come across a corpse (or enemy) with a pipboy and hooded robe. At this point the player can exit the cave system and begin his/her adventures in the Mojave (or wherever).

 

So if your interested (or others are), contribute and if we put together some decent concepts and plot I'll make it.

What I was picturing was a fully humanoid Deathclaw with a tail, perhaps similar to the Argonians with Deathclaw features. Forward swept horns for males, rear-swept horns for the females. Natural Deathclaw Gauntlets with a penalty for using other weapons because of the claws? Natural armor but obviously they could not wear power armor or combat armor/metal armor because of the tails. However, if you were thinking more of an intelligent Deathclaw like Goris or Xarn, it would be virtuually impossible for them to wear anythign but custom clothing, like Goris' cloak.

Yeah I have no interest in slapping a pair of horns on adn saying there is a hybrid deathclaw race, it's already pushing lore to say the intelligent deathclaws survived. But maybe someone else will help you, best of luck.

Not a Human with horns. If you are familiar with the Argonians, they have lizard heads and large tails, possibly with digigrade legs for the Deathclaw Hybrids. Deathclaw horns and spines would also be cool.
