Reaper911 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Pretty much every time Oblivion tries to load, it crashes. I downloaded a save game file, and it didn't work. I can't start a new game, or load an old one. I turned off all my mods, but stupidly never made a spare data file, this is like the third time I've installed Oblivion, so I'm not 100% noob. I am running Windows Vista and successfully ran it previously, Basically as soon as it gets to the load screen BAM, crashed.
Reaper911 Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 I uninstalled and reinstalled, same thing. I noticed that I got a CRC error, My Oblivion.esm file was corrupt or something. I just ignored it, is there somewhere I could get a new one?
Megatarius Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 The .esm on your disc would not be corrupt. It got corrupted somehow after you installed it.
Nexus Set Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I think you'll have to reinstall Oblivion again since the Oblivion.esm got corrupted.
bben46 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Sometimes an uninstall leaves things behind that can cause problems later. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240
Qwaxalot Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Getting a CRC error usually means a damaged or dirty disk or disk drive. Try cleaning both, then follow bben's link. Good luck
bben46 Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I didn't think about a damaged disk.Here is a link to a site that explains how to recover scratched CDs & DVDs http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-repair-and-recover-data-from-damaged-cds-or-dvds/
