Problems With Modding

First I would like to apologize for the bother.

I am having continuous issues with mod/ compatibility and installation, this is probably due to a series of problems as a pose to just one, but please

be patient with me.

At the moment none of the custom race portraits will come up (a blank spot where the model should be), however the race is present as a selection.

messing with it (Clean installs using different methods of installation and loading) I've had it come up as a blackened silhouette, that was once.

I have had these working before. I have also had them working after combining the esp's into 1. So I know the mods have worked in the past.

Presently I use OBMM and Wyre Bash (Admittedly I have little clue as to how to use Bash and I mean very little) before loading.

Also I have Operation Optimizier and OBSE 0017b

I have done Complete uninstalls (deleting all instances of oblivion from my pc)

Tried different methods of loading

Deleted the mods I used and used fresh mods from back up file (ones that have not been loaded or used in a game)

Deleted Data file and used a saved back up (saved after utilities were installed

If you need more information (given the situation I'm sure it's not a problem with the mods but something I'm doing to mess them up) please let me know

and I will post said information.

Thank you in advance, Thunderkeg

Heya matey; firstly, be aware that if you've merged your races you're likely going to have to start a new game. The .esps are different. Your saves will not like em if they were made before the merge. You can try changing the save's mod dependency to the right one in Wrye Bash (under the saves tab, click in the window that tells what mods were used when the save was made and change any mods you've merged/aren't using to their current alternatives) but I've heard mixxed reviews as to how well it works. I know I had to start again once I discovered the wonders of TES Gecko & TES Edit. But I'm not complaining... without merging esps my mod list wouldn't be half of what it is.

If the faces are still awol when you start a fresh game/after modding your save:

First question; Are you certain you're placing the meshes & textures folders in the right place?

I'd have money on the invisible faces being because the textures for them are missing. Ensure the meshes go in the data/meshes folder, and the textures go in the data/textures folder. I've seen people with paths like
Data>>Meshes>>Meshes>>whatever
which won't work. Most (please note, that don't say "all") zips are packed in the correct way to minimize fuss, but mistakes can and do happen.

Second one; Are you using a body replacer?

If yes, check that you've also used the right body replacer for your races. Usually, custom races come with support for multiple body types (Roberts Male, Roberts Female, HGEC, BAB etc) If you're trying to use, say HGEC textures from a race with a Roberts female body, funky things will happen. Its probably worth mentioning here that you should ALWAYS read a mod files readme, and also the uploads topics for individual mods tend to be rather helpful too

And the fun one, but I gotta ask it... Are you using a no-disk crack?

Please please please say no. "Well um... yeah... but thats not piracy, is it?" is just a really dumb answer. If it has anything to do with the word 'crack' and it goes into your body or your computer, its bad. If you have to use a no disk version, download and install some virtual mounting software. Its really easy to use and hey, whatdayaknow, it actually works. Apparently you can also run it from an .exe or something, but I've never tried that as I tend to virtually store all disked software anyway, and just keep the disks as back up.

Lemme know if any of that helps, or if not, send us up a load order list and we'll see if theres anything that jumps out at me.

Thank you for the response,

Mods we're merged and play checked before actually starting a game, they then went defunct after considerable time had passed (I was halfway through main quest and completed SI before crash) ... I am a the moment rebuilding everything from scratch however still having issues though I've managed to get a dark silhouette for one of the races.

I use/used HGEC 1.2 with a high res tex pack for skin and face as well as a face text and cosmetic pack. no issues presented themselves when using them in conjuction with the merged files.

I do not use a no cd crack or cracked version of the game.

I'll pay closer attention to the file placement before loading them to obmm (is it possible that obmm will change it's file processing like via a command or something I may have changed?)

As a side note even if I do get it working again on my own if there is some insight on what actually happened I'd appreciate the knowing even if it was a random act of stupidity on my part.

Thanks again, Thunderkeg
