Currently im using the Mystic Dark Elf race and i really like it, i also have the standard mystic elf race, in the readme it says the hairs are avaliable for ALL races, but not for the dark elf version or any of my vanilla races, i tried using the hairs only .esp but that didnt work either. i also what to use different eyes, the race comes with its own but i want to use some out of Capucines Character Expansion: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3934 but they just don't show up.

anyone care to tell me what i need to do to enable hair and eye mods on a custom race?

thanks

no expert here but i believe you can do it manually via the construction set. make an esm via gecko from what mod you want to add, load it up in the editor and add the various styles to the custom races under races tab. lastly save it as your esp. otherwise it most certainly might be also an issue with your load order.

i heard custom eyes tend to go not to well with the mystic races. maybe thats it.

Well if the readme says it would do this for all races, it probably does...

There are some problems with Ren's beauty pack:

1. I don't know if they already fixed it, but in Ren's Pack, if you use the full version, hair meshes and textures are missing. You need to make sure you take the hair meshes and textures from the 'only hair' version and copy it to the full version in the corresponding folders.

2. Maybe the files need to be archieve invalidated, use OBMMs archive invalidator for this, make sure to tab 'BSA redirection'.

Actually... if it's a custom race that isn't included with the mod itself... nine times out of ten it won't be "all races" anymore. Such as the Tabaxi, by default they don't get ANY of Ren's hairs (I think it is?) or even most of the options from BP. I had to manually load BP and Tabaxi (with Tabaxi active) to get ALL the hair and eyes in the CS.

SO!

In the CS

1. Load Race (set as active)

2. Load Cosmetics

3. Go to Character -> Race

4. Select Race from List

5. Go to Character -> Eyes

(we now have Race and Eyes window open)

6. In Race window, click on the Body Data tab

7. From the Eye window, drag the desired eyes (think you can only do it one by one) into the Eye colors box in the Race window

8. Repeat steps 5-7, but instead choose Character -> Hair and use the Hair Styles box instead of the Eye colors box

Voila.

ok ive done that, saved the .esp and ran oblivion. i go to the race menu but the eys and hair still dont show up, i know changes were made because i removed some default eyes and hair which didnt show up, which is good. so i went back to the .esp and checked the character hair and eye list, all the custom eyes and hairs are gone from the list, i know i put them in there before i saved, should i be saving the changes to the race.esp or the cosmetic .esp?

Getting Ren's hair working with a custom race mod like Tabaxis, is a litlle more difficult then that. The easiest way is to make Tabaxi Race and Ren's hair a master (.esm) file and then create a new mod that adds hair from Ren's to Tabaxi Race. While your doing this you could also put all the hair and eyes in you want to have.

Adding hair and eyes from mods to your mod or a custom ryce mod isn't possible, since you can't make .esps depenedent on .esps. The file needs to be a .esm in order to achieve what you want. After you've made your mod, you can convert the .esm back .esp.

Converting .esps to .esm is possible with Wrye Bash or Tes Gecko. Doing it with Gecko is easier + it can merge anything, but sometimes creates the plugins/masterfile to malfunction. Wrye Bash is safer to use but can't merge any instance of the plugins used.

And a last hint, make sure that Tabaxi Race only adds new stuff to the game and doesn't change anything from vanilla Oblivion. I know that Ren's hair puts in only new stuff. You can leave them both a .esm if this is true. Only mods that add new stuff to the game should be merged and stay master. But if you want to release your mod on Nexus you have to make the created file intependend of the .esms and this isn't possible as long as they are master files.

Actually in Wyre Bash simply right click the Race mod, go to Add Master, then browse to the Cosmetic mod esp. I just checked my own Tabaxi.esp and yes, BP is indeed a master for this on my end now. Sorry for leaving that bit of information out.
