How do i change colours/hues on armor?

I'm wondering how do i change the colours of some of my favourite armors. Do i need G.E.C.K or a similar editing program to create a colour or can i just edit using a simpler way to change colour/hue to make my armor a different hue?

Do i need Nifskope to edit the armor colour?

 

Any advice would be awesome!!

photoshop has been pretty easy to me

Gimp has been great for me. You can get it free at : http://www.gimp.org and just search on Google for gimp "DDS Plugin" and if you want to create normal maps then search for the "normal map plugin".
