question- do you have the command console enabled in your game?

I've had very similar issues, because of that. Accidentally opening the console and not even knowing it (cause it doesnt really show up on the screen). just hitting ENTER usually took the affects away.

also, are you using a wireless keyboard and mouse? if wireless, is it RF, infrared, or bluetooth?

Did you check your plugs, if wired?

If it is a wireless issue, there's several factors that could be involved.

Battery is usually the primary suspect, just as Ben mentioned. But there's also others, and it varies by the type of wireless.

Interference can also be a large factor.

RF can receive interference from a lot of sources. Phones, stereos, Monitors, remote controls....

They are also subject to signal "echo" so if your mouse or receiver is in something of an enclosed area (where it's got objects around it that could bounce teh signal) that could also be an issue.

Range- I cant remember for sure what the range on a RF transmitter/receiver is, but its not really all that far.

IF- (Infrared, light beam) these have a range of about 2 feet. Beyond that, you get signal degradation. You also have to have line of sight or a direct line from the receiver to transmitter. Factors that can affect them are well... light. Having a lamp that is too bright, or too close. Sometimes even too bright a monitor that is too close, and even sunlight coming thru a window. Another issue can be a dirty lense on the reciever or transmitter, or both (VERY common issue in areas with smokers).

Bluetooth- range about 30 feet, varies if there are obstacles. not as subject to echoing, but common interference can be stuff like microwave ovens, televisions, etc.
