Rakaija
Recently I decided to purchase a new video card as my old Radeon 3600's fan broke. I now have a Radeon 4670, which is quite wonderful, apart from one thing. I crash every ten minutes or so in game. I had no problems like this with my old Radeon 3600. Sure, I'd have to play the game on the lowest settings to get it to run smoothly, and even then it'd be laggy sometimes, but at least I could play the game consistently. I have no idea what the issue is. I know 100% that it's not the mod load order, as I had no crashes whatsoever due to mods when I had my 3600. Recently I formatted my computer, hoping that that would help. No cigar. Hell, I even bought a new PSU in hopes that it was due to unavailable power from the old PSU, but now that I have the new one up and running, it's still crashing. All I can think of is that it's GPU related, since the problems began immediately when I installed the Radeon 4670. I just downloaded the new drivers for the 4670 and installed the k-lite full codec pack, so I'll be trying that tomorrow once I'm nice and awake and won't punch my computer out of pure frustration. (I've spent over two weeks getting everything working correctly only to find out that an -upgrade- messed things up. Slightly pissed off.) If anyone can please suggest anything as to how I can fix this, please tell me. If you think it's related to the un-updated drivers or not having the k-lite codec pack, then hopefully it'll be fixed by tomorrow. I'm open to any suggestions at all. Hell, here's my Dxdiag, in case that'll help.
bben46
It could be heat related - I found one video card with a fan running backwards once. Also, make sure you have a clear path for air to get into the fan, and back out. Most systems have some temperature monitoring capability. If you can check the temp after running a few minutes. Another possibility is a bad ram stick. What is the rating on your new Power supply? Here is a link to Bben's Crash Helphttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=298. jaysus
the crashes sound like heat problems, had those basicly only when my blanket, which i wore in cold winter nights, covered the casings air holes, that is if the whole pc crashes and you dont just experience a crash to the windows desktop the lagginess could be the driver but also the gfx card in general, i have a 36xxM on my laptop and its simply unplayable whereas other games have no problem at all (bf2 for example) the x6xx series of ati are usually not that fast in general and speed wise there aint much of a difference between 2xxx,3xxx,4xxx,etc series, they more or less simply increased the range of possible functions, shaders, etc and hence increased speed if the software supports that kind of thing (ok the newer ones have faster vram and more pixelshaders too) btw, dont buy new gfx cards just cause the fan screws up, good replacements are around on the market which really help, i lowered my 850's* 70°C with the vanilla fan down to around 30°C with a 30$ zalmann fan, well maybe in case of the 46xx this doesnt make much sense since that card barely costs that much but for cards which are more expensive it's an alternative. * man, thats a card... served me humbly but with all its might for many many years and would still rock even tho it only has 256MB vram and pixel shader 2 lol, i put it in one row with the riva128 quality wise
Rakaija
I'm pretty sure it isn't the temperature of the system, either. While my case doesn't have fantastic ventilation, I set my fans to go at 100% speed a couple times while I was starting up the game. (Sounded like there was a helicopter in my desk.) I already have SpeedFan up and running, which tells me that any temperature never goes above 60*C. Most of the other temperatures are still below 50*C. I bought a new graphics card simply because my Radeon 3600 was outdated, broken, and I couldn't run any high graphics on it. ;p I don't know what you mean by the 4670 not being much better, because I -can- run far better graphics on it.
