Magicka Bow / Thief Outfit

So, I got this idea a while ago, but I didn't really play Oblivion that much then, so I just let it be.

Now I do, so I decided to ask about it here. Would it be impossible to have a bow that makes it own arrows by using a small amount of your magicka? The arrows could look like they're made out of lightning and the bow could be wooden with small blue crystals attached to it or whatever. A quest to get it would also be nice.

This might have already been done, but I haven't found one. If someone could take a shot at this it would be awesome.

I have another question, now that I'm at it. If anyone knows a really good looking thief outfit, please let me know. I haven't found one and I'd really like to have a character that really looks like a thief. Something like Garrett in the Thief series, the hood especially.

Thanks in advance!

I already know about that, but thanks anyway :)

I made a bow like that ages ago, but it's not really magicka bow, but a "reloading" bow...

Doesn't work so well seeing how a bow requires a quiver too.

All I used was some scripting and weapon modding, but it didn't turn out the way I want it because I'm not that great at scripting at the time...

I learned java in college recently so I can probably cook up something through scripting, but don't have the game anymore.

There are two ways a Magic Bow could be done.

The first method would be to use the staff weapon type, load a bow mesh, and add the enchantment for the attack type. The draw back is this will require extensive scripting to redo the animations to match how the bow works.

The second method involves scripting a special arrow that respawns in inventory. The arrow mesh can then be given a special texture and/or particle emitter. Speed of the arrow would have to be adjusted for lightning to look right, as arrows are treated as actual physical objects traveling in the game world.

Not sure which method would be easier for a script writer. If any one knows script writing well enough, let us know. I could provide some mesh/particle flow files to see if we could get this working. I could even do textures, although there are much better texture artists around here.

I think I could cook something up... I've a few ideas how it could work already but I'd have to test them out. I can't do this right now since I'm trying to finish up one of my own projects, but I'll definitely keep this in mind since I have no other plans once I'm done with my current work.

The first option sounds better, but I think it'll also be harder to make because of the animation you mentioned. I don't know anything about modding or scripting so I don't know how hard it would be...

Also, thanks. There are more people interested in this than I expected. :) What kind of meshes did you have in mind?

Great, thanks! No rush. :)

For invisible objects like arrows and quiver, we can use mesh from the game. I was thinking of the Magic Bow itself for the mesh and textures, then there are textures needed for the effects. I'll check on what I can grab from the game to "spruce up" a bow to practice on getting the effects right. That could be a mod on it's own. I could use some ideas and/or artwork to help with keeping from being to generic. Not to mention the detail artwork needed on the high poly version for the normal map.

Also, keep in mind that I won't be working quickly, but I'm usually logged in every day. You can just send a PM for a quick update on how things are going. I'll upload to the resources section when I finish stuff. I'll be using 7z and password protecting to keep any special files private. And keep in mind that logged in does not always count as paying attention.
