hickd
Hi all, Firstly, I have installed Oblivion in the Secondary Drive (Not 'C' Drive) and the game itself works fine, however when I install mods, I copy their files into the data folder and tick them in the 'data files' however, when I enter the game, the mods are non-existant, there is not trace of them in the game. I can't use C drive to play oblivion because it just simply dosent work (saying that it can't find the esm, even though it was ticked in data files, and it was in the data folder). I am currently using Windows Vista. Any help on this would be much appreciated! Thanks
Rifler
Are you logged in as Administrator on your Windows Vista? Lhammond can help you on this, I forgot what he mentioned when this happens. Posting a modlist would also be helpfull to solve your problem.
bben46
Based on your post, you have possibly moved or copied your Oblivion install from C: to another drive. If you do this without actually uninstalling properly, Oblivion still looks in the same place as before to find its files. Like many windows programs, Oblivion must be installed for the Windows to recognize that it exists. During the install process it places some files in the Windows Registry. If those files are not completely removed when you move the game, then it still thinks the program (Oblivion) is in the same place and looks there for files. Even using the uninstall program in the original disk does not remove all of these registry entries and they can come back to 'byte' you later. My complete uninstall/ reinstall covers how to completely remove all entries, and reinstall properly with all patches. Installing to a separate hard drive is fine. As that should get you away from the UAC protected program files folder. Unless you have also moved that protected program files folder to the other drive also. And as previously stated, you MUST be logged on as a computer administrator to do any of this. Which bypasses one of the security features provided by Windows. A limited user cannot do much more than run programs that are already installed, and that they are pre approved to use. hickd
Thanks for the help. I used to have Oblivion on C drive. I uninstalled it via setup.exe without fully removing all files associated with Oblivion (First Mistake) However, this is where it gets strange. I have recently deleted all files associated with oblivion, and attempted to re-install it on C drive. However when I do this, it still has some mods ticked in the Data Files (on the main menu) that I used when I originally had oblivion on C Drive (COBL etc), even though these files are non existant, in the data file, or anywhere else on the computer. It is as though it has saved that info on the disk (???). That, as well as saying that, when I attempt to load a saved game I haven't loaded any of the master files used to play the game (even though the Oblivion esm is ticked on Data Files, and is in the oblivion folder!). My other problem, as stated before, is that when I install oblivion on the secondary drive, the game itself works fine, but mods are non-existant in the game, even though they are ticked in the data files. I have tried installing oblivion using a friends copy on my computer, to C drive and the same thing has happened (not having the oblivion esm activated, and the non-existing mods in the data files). It's very strange.... Any suggestions would be much appreciated, and thanks for the replys so far. -Hickd
