My HDD is cut in 3 partition and as my friend, saying himself "professional" said, the smallest (20 GO) for the OS but ... there's a problem now of place for mods so there's my question : Can we change the place of the override folder ? To another disc I mean. For info, i'm onto Windows Seven and had a lot of place on other partition so ... Thanks for firstly read and hope it could be solve
chibievil
i dont think thats possible , unless i think if you install it to where you want it to be, but override always seems to be in documents so it might not be possible
DarkeWolf
Ok, I'm going to be blunt here. 20 gigs of hdd space isnt enough for a win7 machine. Not sure about Xp, but I know that vista and win7 both make massive amounts of copies of files. many of them in the 'documents' folder, and tons of temp files. Not to mention that it's going to assign at least 1.5 times the amount of ram you have as virtual memory (probably be about 1-3 gigs) and at least 5% of your hard drive to space reserved for system (such as recycle bin and cache). Tho the cirtual memory can be assigned to, and is prefered to be, put on another partiton. gaming aside, unless you dont use the computer hardly at all, with not much installed on it, 20 gigs is going to start giving you memory errors. As in not enough of. Such a small part is going to fill up too fast. Triple it to 60 gigs if you can, bare minimum is my recommendation. But you're going to end up losing the information on the partitions when you change the size of them, so if you have any files that you want backed up, start doing so before you begin to undertake the FDISK. mongoyl
Thanks a lot for your answers ! i'll backup my importants files ( as DAO mods :whistling:), is that necessary to reinstal all of those or just replacing the folder will be ok ? And what about .dll ? DAO is instal on another physical HDD, so i don't think the installation risk anything, exept .dll I won't have internet until the week-end so have a good week and thanks again
Balagor
Why partitions at all? True you have a backup if your OS fails, but what if your HDD fails? I would not feel secure without having at least 2 HDD´s. One small 160 gb for OS and stuff, and a large one for backup and to suit your needs.
DarkeWolf
I would recommend making backup copies of the files, I would not however, recommend relying on them. I've just recently reinstalled my game, my bioware documents, and all game info to get rid of awakening and patch 1.03.While your savegame, and "most" of your mods will work just fine by such a method, the actual gamefiles are much better off by a clean install. I also dont recommend relying on the copy and paste method for the initial use of things such as da modmanager, or damodder. those I would go with a clean install. Bal- 1) For simplicity of backups. Its much easier to backup some files that are on a seperate part, than the OS. Then your backups arent copying all the essocentric crap that accompanies the OS.2) failsafe. not all viruses can corrupt files on seperate parts.3) ease of file structure/organization. for me, its easier to find all my game files on a near-root directory on U: than is is to hunt thru several subdirectories on C:4) not all machines have access to multiple internal drives, and some users cant afford external ones. (tho nowadays the cost difference of an external drive to an internal one has lessened quite a bit). Or want to suffer the transfer rate permance of usb/firewire vs sata.
