Weird OBSE bug - Can't find fix

So i was normally just playing TES4 without any errors etc...I quit the game and later try to play again and try to start the game with OBSE. [i've been using OBSE for long time and had no errors]

What happens is that it seems that OBSE won't load oblivion.exe anymore; even if i reinstalled OBSE or tried another version.

If i get ingame, i see throught everything, and there's no visible options on starting screen, or it just crashes.

Any help?

No help...OBSE log tells

Couldn't find Oblivion.exe, make sure you're running this from the same folder as your oblivion.exe.

checksum not found

But if i go play with no OBSE it works..

It sounds like OBSE is not installed in the same folder as Oblivion.exe. Right click on your Oblivion desktop shortcut and select "Properties". A window will open with three tabs at the top name "General", "Shortcut" and "Compatibility". Click on the "Shortcut" tab and look in the box next to "Target". This is the file path for your Oblivion Launcher. That's where OBSE needs to be installed for it to work. If it's not there, install it there. If it is there, your probably using Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Hello Guys,

I have the same problem as this poster, was working fine for ages then one day i tried to play and the starting screen was blank. No start game, load game, etc.. I tried to just hit right 3 times and press enter and then up to load a game without actually seeing anything on screen, it worked but when oblivion loaded it was all weird and extremely slow also it did not show a loading screen.

Oblivion works fine with no OBSE but i got some amazing mods that need it, please help.

Have tried new version of OBSE, same problem.

If you do have Windows Vista or 7 do what the link in blue on The_Vyper's post says, Install Oblivion (or STEAM)-outside of Program Files and UAC monitoring. I use C:Games\Oblivion instead of C:Program Files\Bethesda Softworks. Three biggest causes of ctd at startup are (1) bad load order, which can cause (2) mod conflicts, but can be fixed with ensuring your game is patched to 1.20416, using utilities like BOSS,Oblivion Mod Manager(OBMM), using the Unofficial Oblivion Patches, Wrye Bash, but these are useless unless everything is (3) Installed following the instructions in the readme. This last one has bitten me quite a few times. P.S. You may need to be an administator to change the Oblivion icon to use the OBSE launcher.

Does it run without OBSE? To find out, you will have to remove all mods - Not just disable them. Here's how (completely reversible)

Bben's Oblivion Revert to Vanilla game

http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=340

In your case I would remove all of the OBSE files from the Oblivion folder also.

After you get the vanilla game to work, add OBSE (not the mods, just the OBSE) and try it. If that works, add a mod that needs OBSE - complete reinstall of the mod, not a copy from the backup you made. If that works, you may try reversing the procedure to put your original mods back. If it fails then, you will know it is a mod and not OBSE
