Probably an easy question

how do you convert a .esm to a .esp file? I know this sounds easy but I'm just beginning to mod and this is confusing me. I have found how to do it vice versa in FOMM but that's it.

First, you should ask yourself why you want to do that, especially if you are new and aren't sure of what you're doing.

 

If you answer that in a way that satisfies you, it can be done with either fo3edit or the fo3 plugin utility.

Use a tool like FO3Edit to modify the header record. Its as simple as checking or unchecking the ESM flag in the header. I understand that Fo3Pluggin can also do it, but I have not ever used that utility, though it has been said it is easier to use.

Thanks for the info. As to why I would want to since I'm new: I want to change a mod slightly and besides, I'll never learn if I don't do it.
