Lazy Craig
Hi, I've recently got oblivion for the PC and just downloaded and installed about 170 mods using OBMM over the past week or so. I started a new test game the other day and all seemed to be fine so just today I installed the last of the mods but now oblivion crashes on start up. I put this down to conflicting mods. I spent several hours correcting the load order and installing compatibility patches, there were a few issues but it turns out I have reached some kind of limit on the maximum number of active esp/esm files. To check and rule out mod conflicting I repeatedly disabled some esp's and tried others from different mods but oblivion still failed to start up after I reached this kind of limit. I have heard of people using hundreds of mods so i'm not sure why I have reached this limit. Could it be my PC? an issue with OBMM? Would it be worth learning how to use Wyre Bash instead? Hope someone can help! Cheers,Craig
Jenrai
The active ESP/ESM file limit is 255 I believe. Its not a limit on OBMM. Its a limit on the game engine, the way mods are numbered. Including inactive, and this is mostly just superstition I think, but the limit is around 400. With more than 400 esp/esms in your data folder, the game won't load. The crash on start up is not usually a conflict though, its a more often a missing master. A mod that relies on another mod to be present in your load order can't find that other mod. Not sure about OBMM, but in Wrye Bash, to the right of your mod list you'll see a window named something like "master files" ... and mods that rely on other mods will have a red check box next to them to indicate that one or more of the masters for that mod are missing.
