Working on a mod

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm working on beautifying Skingrad in a mod I'm working on. I've put tons of flowers, plants, trees and all kinds of other stuff in it.

I play with my mod installed but now Skingrad is choppy. I still have a lot more to beautify. Have I already put too much into the mod that's making

the game choppy? Is this why? Or is there something else I may have done wrong? It's size is 333KB. Is that too big? :ermm: Thanks for any help you can offer.

Filesize wouldn't cause it, but polycount will. You probably have too much stuff on screen at once.

Just in case you haven't heard of it: Have you looked at Better Cities? Anytime I see a city mod I think, "but is it compatible with Better Cities?" I'm just saying, if you think the cities need work (which they do), you should look into the mod that fixed them, and then make your own changes, just in case you discover it down the line, like what you see, and find that it screws with your mod.

Megatarius is right, you've simply placed to much. The size of the file doesn't say much in the end, it's about all things at one place at the same time. The more objects (thus poleys) you have at the same time, the more stressing it's for your graphics, but even more for your CPU. You'll need a decent quad-core if you want to have plants at ever piece and bit you can think of and still you'll be limited by oblivion its engine.

It's the difficulty to balance between cluttering to beautify or to avoid crippling the game.

I thought since the plants were little, it wouldn't be a big deal. Grrrs on me. Okay, I'll make it more simplified. Thanks!

That was what I mentioned to you earlier, too much stuff in those tight Skingrad streets=lag time.

I am never enough of precise decoration and flowers and trees and everything, but the game can't deal with it,unfortunately.

Keep up the good work.

I am almost done with mine, just a bit of furnishing and a couple of interiors and it will be ready for you to decorate as much as you want.

I'll drop ya a screenshot later.
