I hear ya. I could also really use some tutorials and stuff. The wiki site assumed that you knew what u were doing when it came to making weapons. I need something to show me how to make a mesh using 3dsmax 8, texturing, and importing. Would be cool to make my own weapons/armor.

Honestly, I need something that tells exactly what you need to install mods, and where all of the different file types go. Some of the mods I have give instructions that work, while others believe you already know what you're doing, and some tell me to install things to directories that don't exist.

That's a fair bit of trouble for me.

I was so frustrated by the lack of decent beginner tutorials for modding using the Construction Set that have written my own. I am currently editing it at the moment. It's a really basic tutorial for us newbies. Having stuck with the CS and asked a lots of annoying questions in the forums I have peiced together enough knowledge to build my own house and fully furnish it.

As a Teacher I think it would be nice to share this with you.

The Tutorial will come in a series of Lessons aimed at the total novice. I have never modded anything before I begun playing oblivion, and the lessons are pitched at that level. It assumes absolutely no knowledge.

Provisional Titles are:-

1) Using the Render Window

By the end you should be able to make simple add and replace mods. This will enable you to move add and replace objects like furniture in existing buildings

2) Constructing an Interior

By the end you should be able to build simple interiors and link them to existing buildings. This will enable you to extend or change the layout of interiors

3) Working in the Exterior Worlds

By the end you should be able to copy existing facades and buildings and link them to your interior spaces. this will enable you to create 'new' buildings and dungeons

4) Building and Simple Landscaping

By the end you should be able to build your own exterior and link it to an interior. You can then change the lanscape to blend this into the world. This will enable you to construct castles, palaces or woodsheds.

As I learn more I will develop the series to cover

Questing

Scripting

Simple NPC's

Textures and Meshes

Cpmplex NPC's

If any of the more advanced modders would like to contribute to the series I would be very greatful. The first lesson should be completed in the next few days. If anyone has any comments, ideas, tips or suggestions please pm me or if this threads originator doesn't mind you can post them here.

I don't know if it helps but a quick world about using mods downloaded from the web.

1. Always save your game 3 or 4 times before you add a mod just in case. The modders are pretty decent folk and they usually test there mods carefully but the game is complex and the mod may affect your game in unusual ways, so be safe rather thean sorry.

2. The actually mod file carries a file extention .esp or .esm. These go in the DATA folder of the OBLIIVION game folder. You will have to activate it by clicking next to its name in the data files menu when you start the game.

3. Some mods add extra files, usually textures and meshes. (The tutorial explains what these are about) You should be a little careful about these. The vast majority add new content and are safe. You can drag the texture folder from the mods unzipped folder in to the date file and it will add the files to the correct place.(XP ) The same goes for the meshes. In both case the FOLDER EXIST dialog box will pop up. I find it best to click yes not YEs to All. That way I can be sure the mod is adding new content. If you are not using XP letme know and I will give you a heads up about what to do and where things go.

4. A few mods overwrite existing textures. e.g there must be about 20 mods that change the female underwear, or remove it. ALL these use the same files so be aware when a mod is overwriting a FILE, rather than adding to a folder.
