cloak174
I'm sorry to say, but I have very little skill in the ways of Mod-Fu. I've played with the G.E.C.K. a little, but beyond that, I'm worthless. That's why I'm asking the wonderous modders of the Fallout Nexus if they would be willing to try something for me, or at least let me know if it's possible. I've noticed a lot of radio mods on the Nexus, most of which simply add a few songs. But I want to be able to hear some of my favorite music come through in that slightly static-y tone that the pip-boy emulates, whilst blowing up super mutants. I propose a mod that would link up with your i-Tunes, and play songs from it. Knowing what little I do about modding, it seems to me like the easiest road to go down with this would be to have it set to find a specific playlist name, and then play songs from that. This would also allow for customization of what is being played through the ease of i-Tunes music library. I say i-Tunes, only because it is the first MP3 organizer/player that comes to mind at the moment, if it would be any easier to use [insert Generic MP3 player], for instance, then that's perfectly fine. I would definitely appreciate it if someone could get back to me on this Pronto, as well as any feedback as to whether this is a good/bad idea, or if there's something in the Nexus that I missed similar to what I'm describing. :ninja:
pkleiss
Its really not as simple as that. But its also not too hard. It just requires a bit of work. You see, the Geck assigns path and file names itself for spoken dialogue files, which music is one example. So you can't have the game go searching for some third party list of music. One has to create dummy files for each song and then overwrite the files the geck creates with their own music files. An alternate way of playing music is to create a sound object, but one would have to create one object for each song and then have some script control it all with preset timers so it knows when to start a new song. But this becomes overly complicated, so the method of creating a quest with radio dialogue is still the better way. If someone was very smart, they could make a third party utility that could search the pre-made geck path/file names and replace those with some other files from some other list. But the game itself can't do that. Currently, the easiest way to hear your own music would be to install some music/radio mod and replace the songs files for that mod with your own. One would also have to ensure that the song files that one used to do the replacing were of the proper format or they won't play. Most likely the MP3s you have are not the right format so a third party audio program like Audacity or Wavasaur would be needed to convert the mp3s to the correct format. csgators
The I-pip player mod is about as close as you are going to get.
pkleiss
See, there you go. Somebody smart already did this for you. If you read the desription for the I-pip, you'll see there is an issue with stutter. This comes from the fact that MP3s are encoded and the game has to use valuable processor time to decode them. To get better playing music, one needs to use .wav files - which are much much bigger, but can be played without decoding.
