Implementing new voice/lip files

I'm surprised there's still an active modding community for Oblivion ;O

I'm trying to add some spoken dialog to one of my characters in my first real mod. Maybe I've been looking in all the wrong places but my two hour Google adventure and CS Wiki digging has proven fruitless to this point.

I have several compressed mp3 files and generated lip files in my Oblivion directory - Data/Sound/Voice/ModeMod-01.esp/Argonian/M/MODEMUGNAdam_GREETING_00006AAE_#.mp3/lip - they're showing up in dialog panel and I'm able to play them back. However, when I run the game in an attempt to test it there.. silence. The audio files are 64kbps, 44.1kHz, mono. I'm not running any other mods. Any ideas or suggestions on how to get around this?

Thanks a ton in advance!

The latest version of the CS is broken and will not easily allow you to create and insert voiced dialog files and lip movement files into a mod. Hence, there are very few mods with voiced dialog. So don't record your voice files using the new CS. Some people record voice files on the Old CS, and then transfer them into the new CS. I think you could also record them on general recording software if you adjusted all the setting right. On my computer I have not figured out how to run both the new CS and the old one. Installing the new one destroys the old one. It is like I would need two computers or would need to partition the harddrive and have two separate parts of my computer and only be able to use one at a time.

I'm actually not using CS to record - so far it's all prepared audio that I recorded and editing in Adobe Audition. I did use the old CS to generate the .lip files for the dialog and xferred them into the (seemingly) appropriate directories for the mod.. but they just won't play in game ;( They'll even play back in the CS editor.

Since my first post I've been wondering if it's possibly a permissions issue. Going to see if installing Oblivion into a more accessible folder or opening up the permissions of the files will help at all... This is driving me nuts.

Just brainstorming at this point:

If you are not sure you got the paths right, you could use TES4 Gecko to to put silent dialog into your mod, look in the CS to find the proper file paths and names for your recorded voice files, and then rename them and place them accordingly to replace the silent lip-synched files.

I am sure you have already double-checked that the settings for things like kbps and kHz are the proper ones for Oblivion.

I just got it fixed, and I love you.

I used Gecko and did just as you said to generate those silent files - in game, dialog lasted between 5-10 seconds per response. Attempting to edit those very same files, they remained silent and duration kept cutting down to <1 sec. So, I was able to determine that it was a problem with the files after all. Opened the files up in the editor and, via the advanced compression options, I disabled every bit of extra information that was saving with the file - ISO padding, CRC checksums, private/original/copyright bits... and success!

Thanks a lot mang. While an indirect resolution, I would have surely been banging my head against a wall over this for hours and hours without trying that one!
