Did Awakenings break my game?

Recommended Posts

I have played through DAO twice now on PC. I have a bunch of mods and dlc and had no problems with them at all. Then I installed awakenings and played through that with my second character.

I started totally new game after that and a bunch of stuff isn't working, my ivory tower and Wings of velvet aren't in the game although they show as installed. And the Dragon Blood Armour is missing completely, not showing as installed or anything. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the Ivory Tower and Wings of velvet several times using both Da updater and when that did not work I uninstalled and tried DAmodder. which still did not work. Does anyone have any ideas on what happened or how I can fix it? Thanks.

well msot mods and DLC don't work with awakenings sorry, when you play awakenings best to have a character with all original stuff no DLC or test the dlc and mods that could work, which will take up alot of your time. by just putting all armor in inventory and see which ones shows up

that's the weird thing it was there when I played awakenings. But now that I created a new character for Origins it's missing...I was able to redownload the DLC but still can't get 2 of the mods to work in origins.

Its awakening. Awakening blocks certain mods thru a list of armor/weapons that use a particular type of name, or a particular set of meshes. They did this because of there being graphics glitches between the old sets, and the new tints that they added to Awakening. It was only supposed to affect the awakening game, but they goofed, and it affects new characters in Origins too.

No patch available for it, and doubtful that there will be, as they wont even acknowledge the problem(s) with awakening/patch 1.03

Wings of Velvet

Black Templar Armor

Grey Warden Runic Armor

Leliana Item Set

Nightfall Bloom

The Ivory tower

Warden Commander Shields

Just the ones that it blocked from loading for me.

Now, here's the problem. This block list loads BEFORE any mods that you have installed and thus reinstalling the mods, wont do ANYTHING about it. AND its flags are included to the savegame. Whats that mean? It means that even uninstalling awakening, it will still block them from that save! (Isnt that just wonderful of them?)

Here's your choices. 1) Deal with it. And go complain at social.bioware about how bad they effed up with patch 1.03

2) Uninstall the game, remove the bioware/dragon age registry entries, and reinstall, and patch to 1.02 (those you can find at fileplanet.). Load up your game BEFORE installing mods, to create a new saved game (dont over-write an old one, create a new one!). save it, close down, start installing mods. And then go complain at social.bioware about how bad patch 1.03/awakening was.

EDIT- fileplanet no longer carries the patch 1.02. you can however find it all over the place on google.

Just a complete theory, I cant test it as I wont reinstall awakening. But you could TRY running DAA deactivated when creating a new character, and see if that works. And then just leave it deactivated until you actually wanna play from that campaign.

I dont know if it would work or not, as I believe that the problem is also associated with patch 1.03. However, its a theory that would take all of about 5 seconds to test, for somebody that stlll has the expansion installed.
