Texturing and Nifskope scripting

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but I cannot find a tutorial for either making a texture for a new mesh, or how to even make a brand new NIF mesh playable from Nifskope. A link to a good tutorial or guide, or answers to some broad questions would be helpful.

 

When I load up a vanilla mesh in Nifskope I see all kinds of new complex things going on, do I need those on a new mesh if I want it playable? Is so, what do I need to do?

 

How do I make a texture? (a very hard to answer question I know)

 

Is there a seperate type of mesh for dropped items that I will need to make?
