.mor won't "stick"

I have a face mod for Morrigan, Morrigan a darker look (the one with the red eyes) that I think fits the b**ch great. Can I say the "B" word? I really liked the DA redesigned version of Morrigan, the Victoria Johnson one, but I like that for Leliana. I put it on put it on Leliana and it works great....to hell with lore, I like hot chicks. I had used that installer to put that face on Morrigan originally, but have since switched to the different darkside version. Here is where the problem starts.....

I put the morrigan.mor file in my override folder and it works fine, the proper new "darkside" Morrigan look when I start a new character. About the time after Lothering, when you travel and it sends you to the camp for the first time, Morrigan's face changes back to the Victoria Johnson DA redesigned face. I then uninstalled the VJ Morrigan face using the uninstaller from the DA redesigned mod and re-copied the morrigan.mor file for the darkside one I want and had it over write the one in my override....still it goes back to the VJ face. No matter which Morrigan face I try, even the vanilla one, after going to camp it defaults back to the VJ one. WTF? I don't understand how it is doing that considering that I deleted all morrigan.mor files that use the VJ and named them leliana.mor so I can use them for Liliana. Where could it be getting the .mor file to change back to the VJ DA redesigned?

I have even tried the chargen mod that lumps all into one XTML....nope, still does it. Oh do I miss the way modding worked in Oblivion....

hmmm. very interesting issue you have here.

I've been thinking about it since I saw it here, yesterday. I came up with two ideas.

1) Did you open the morph that you're having issues with, in the toolset? If so, have you tried clearing the toolset cache? Its in the tools options, in there with export.

Did you create any custom modules, before, or while you had the file open? if so, it will automatically lump that morph into that custom module, unless you manually change modules before opening a file.

2) Did you try your addins folder, along with your override folder, when cleaning out the old .mor files? Many mods add items to that folder as well. Best bet is to have windows search the entire dragon age folder for instances of that filename. or better to just look for mor. That will come up with instances of Morrigan, and mor for morph files.

good luck!

Thank you for your suggestions. I don't use the toolset at all yet. Haven't got that far into it. All of the mods I was using were working fine until this. I did stumble across a new interesting twist to this issue. I figured that I might be able to get around this by changing Leliana to the Lisa Bana's Morrigan face which is also very nice and would work for Leliana. Leliana took the new face fine but when I go back to camp, now Morrigan was wearing that face as well!! I was now really going WTF?!!! I have both polygamy and equal love installed and running at the time. I am uninstalling both to see if those were causing the issue. I will post back if I find out what is causing this.

No problem, I like to try to help out when and where I can.

K, we can rule out the toolcrap as the culprit then.

I've been running both those mods together for quite some time now, and have not had any issues like this. I'm still using the original versions of them, I dont know if they've been updated since my install or not.

The only thing I can really think of, is that you've still got vestiges of that morph somewhere in your dragon age folder. Either that, or somewhere along the line, your morrigan files got told to use the leliana morph. You wont be able to check the latter tho, without using toolset.

Some very general instructions on how to check. I cant use those files right now, as I'm at school. Sorry about that. Open up the toolset, and over on the right hand side, you'll see some icons. click the one that says all. then in the search box, type in morrigan.

it will hunt thru the files, and then bring up a treestyle directory. Find Global and expand it. Then click on Followers, and expand it (click on the + sign next to it). Now...there's several listing for "Global" there, so you'll have to look thru them till you find the one with followers - Morrigan.chr (I think it's the second listing for global).

Right click on the morrigan.chr file, and choose open local copy.

scroll thru that, till you get to the appearance section, and make sure taht the morph listed there is hf_genfl_morrigan

if it's not, type that in, and then click save. that will save the file to your toolset export folder (its somewhere in documents/bioware/dragon age) again, sorry, I cant look that up right now

the toolset might actually tell you where it's saving it to, down in a lower window. Cant remember for sure, I know that it does when exporting.

Now, with that done, you'll wanna go into the toolset menu for tools click export, and there should be an option in there for clean toolset cache. do that.

now go windows explorer, go to the documents/bioware/dragon age/ .... .... toolset export file, and find the .chr file. cut it, and then go to bioware/dragon age/packages/core/overrides folder, and paste the file there.

I have found what the issue is. It seems that if I try and rename a morrigan.mor to a leliana.mor and put it on leliana, there is something in the program that tells the Morrigan NPC to use the same morrigan.mor face. If I use a Leliana face or any other face from the override folder for Leliana, everything is fine. I am just going to have to create my own Leliana face in the toolset. No offense to redheads, but I have never liked the sassy redheaded look for Leliana. I am not a big "lore" guy. I like hot chicks. You should have seen my Oblivion game....all the gals looked like supermodels. I think I am going to make a new sexy as hell Leliana with blonde hair and a Ren's type ponytail....I am a sucker for a big ponytail.

Thanks again for your help. Kudos for you.

That is really...really....REALLY strange. I have not Ever heard of an issue like that. Tho, I will however keep that in mind, if I ever see somebody else that has an issue like that. So I most DEFINITELY appreciate you sharing the fix that you found.

LOL I can't blame you there. After actually having dated a redhead (very stereotypical with the temper issues) I cant fault you in the least

LOL I also can't blame you at all for the eyecandy fetish. Its one that many of us gamers have, male and female

AHA!!! I think I just found the issue! On a hunch, I opened up my hf_genfl_morrigan.morph file in toolset.

Right there at the top, very first line, it reads NAME: hf_genfl_morrigan

So, if you change that to hf_genfl_leliana that may solve the problem for you and keep you from having to make the morph yourself.

Thanks very much for the kudos, that is really appreciated!

[edit] The simplest way to open that file in toolset is to use windows explorer to find documents/bioware/dragon age/packages/core/override, then find the mor file in there. then start up the toolset. then just drag and drop the mor into toolset. [/edit]

Good luck, and happy gaming

After going through that, I just finally decided to get some suggestions and made my own morph. It took some trial and error but I got it close enough for now. I am going to tweak my new Leliana morph later to get her perfect for me. I am going back to the Victoria Johnson Morrigan as Dracomies did a spectacular job with her...so sexy. Here is a SS of my new Leliana morph...
