Changing tail slot clothing to the ring slot using TESCS?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to change a piece of clothing from the Lady Death costume mod which uses the tail slot into to the ring slot using the Construction set because its an outfit I want one of my companions to wear and unfortunately the only way for that to be possible is if its using the ring slot. I've heard its relatively easy but I have absolutely no idea how to do it..anyone up for giving me the basics?

Alright so I uploaded the mod into TESCS and changed the bikini(the item using the tailslot) to using the ring slots but when I save and exit out it still says even after I've updated it that the item STILL uses the tail slot. Am I saving incorrectly or doing something else wrong? I don't think its a problem with the meshes either because this is exactly what the creator of the mod told me to do, I guess I must just be going about it wrong somehow.

Make sure to have the mod ACTIVATED and no just ticked ... you do this by selecting the mod and pressing the "Set as Active File" .... by just just ticking the mod box - you create a new mod that is dependent on the ticked mod IE: making a plugin for a "new lands" mod.

Not sure about the ring slot thou ... in theory it should work ... a slot is still just a slot.... either that or you could use the amulet slot.

Good luck

Okay so I was pretty sure I made it the active file but just to be positive I went back and did it again in exactly that way and once I re-uploaded it after making the change it still said tail slot, like nothing had been edited at all. I even tried changing it to the amulet slot instead but it still reads tail. I dont get it!

You can create a new plugin by either doing:

1: Load up the plugin IE: MyMod.esp and after it is loaded into CS , you go and remove/move/rename that plugin (MyMod_backup.esp) and then you hit the save button, and now you should have both MyMod.esp and MyMod_Backup.esp in your DATA folder.

2: You load up the MyMod.esp plugin and do your changes and then you go to File/Tools/Combine Loaded Plugins and just save it to whatever you want.

Either way you choose , you should now only load your plugin and not the original one , and see if there was any changes made (Ingame not in CS) if its still the same , then you're doing something wrong.

You can however create a new plugin from scratch with the clothing piece you want, since you got the mesh(es) already.

If you don't know how create a new clothing/armor piece for the game you can follow this mini guide:

1: Enter CS

2: Tick Oblivion.esm

3: Go to Clothing/Armor pick any submenu IE: darkbrotherhood

4: Right Click on any Clothing/Armor Piece and pick EDIT

5: Give it an unique ID IE: MyStupidUnChangingClothing1

- Set a new name

- If you want any enchantment - Pick that or put NONE

- Have Playable ticked and Hide Rings and Hide Amulet Unticked

- Select the Biped Objects of your choosing (in this case Right/Left Ring)

- Under Biped Model , click the button under that says "Armor/something/something.NIF" and point it to the Lady Death 's meshes (the .nif files)

- Don't touch the World model button , unless Lady Death has a world model .nif if it doesn't you will get a big ! if you drop your clothes from the inventory (This is the benefit you get form EDIT instead of making a NEW clothing piece)

- Same goes for the icon image as for the biped model, except you point to a .dds in the Oblivion\Data\Textures\Menus\Icons folder. (doesn't really matter which icon you pick if you're not picky)

6: Hit OK and it will tell you that the ID has changed and if you want to create a new piece - hit Yes

7: Double Click on any world space if your choosing in the "Cell View" Window

- Move around with the middle mouse button , zoom with the wheel, hold SHIFT to Pan the view

- Find a nice spot you will remember and drag your new clothing from the object window in to the Render window

- It should now pop up ,you can move it around to a nice place where you can reach it (I tent to get lazy so I just enable HAVOK with the button that has a ball and HK on it, and let that do the job.) .

8: Save the plugin to whatever you like:

9: Find the stuff ingame.

Good Luck , Hope it was helpful to you.
